p61a with OAK - installed today!

After many many hours pouring over the advice and asking questions, we finally pulled the trigger and got the p61a. They installed it today and I'm super excited!

Just wanted to say thanks everyone for all the help...even my husband (who really really wanted the xxv) likes it. We have a lot to learn now we have to read all the posts about "what your harman manual doesn't tell you" and how to move air around but overall, we are super psyched about it!

Our old kozi at the other end of the house is up and running - between the two of them I have a feeling we are going to be all set for the next polar vortex The last one we had to burn oil and it was PAINFUL. Bring it on, old man winter! We are ready for you

I can get a better one of the side / OAK tomorrow...but for now...
Brick hearth and slate in front were already there (previously had old wood stove from mid-1980s that came with the house)

Are you going to RTV a nice scenic tile in the ash pan inset or get the nickel trim kit with the tile frame?

Hey Don - I was able to understand you question based the context, but I have no clue what RTV is...can you help me out? Still learning all the lingo haha

We are probably going to go with a tile in the ash pan inset - there's a website someone posted on here with some great ones or even the ability to do a tile based on a photo. I saw an adorable one that some had done of their dog....we will wait a bit till we actually finish doing things like painting the walls and buying furniture before buying. We just moved and there's still a ton to do, so the tile is an extra perk at this point

We are just so happy we won't be seeing our breath when we sit on the couch anymore!! That was a cold few days!!

Thanks! I told my husband this is required reading and I promised to send him the link so we can both be in the loop. Is it weird I'm excited to read this? My family is coming over tomorrow and I kinda want them to cancel so I can learn more about the stove lol

Looks like you have cedar siding...for your exhaust outlet be sure you have met at least the minimum clearances from combustible surfaces..be save!!

Thanks for the advice - I'll try and find out the code. I think we are okay - it goes out farther than I expected and our installer was pretty good about everything else and seemed legit, but just to be safe we will look into it.

He also said he sells a heat rated/outdoor paint for the pipe so it'll match the house. Again, a minor detail...we are just so happy to be WARM again. No more ski hats and scaves indoors!

Forgot to thank you for the room probe and surge advice. is there a recommended brand by the people here on the forum? We haven't even gotten that far yet. Still spinning from everything going on today (we painted, plastered, primed, got the stove, cleaned, unpacked). Been a busy "vacation". We move the probe and get a surge tomorrow, for sure! Thanks again!!

Thanks! The dogs love it now... Were a little wary of the pipe coming out of the house and they let me know it by staring at it everytime we went outside. The pellets clinking into the pan alerted the little guy for a while buy he settled down pretty quick... I think they approve!

Thanks, jim! The floors are one of the reasons we bought this place...i love them too! Finally, they are warm wood floors instead of cold!

RTV = Room Temperature Vulcanizing

It is High Temperature Silicone that can hold the tile to the stove without a frame. Basically an economical way to put the tile in. I use the clear RTV so it does not show.

RTV... Got it! thanks for the link... It does look great! Daltons Memorials were also mentioned im the thread, they are the ones I was thinking of when i responded earlier. They did a great one of someone's dogs. Think it would be hard to choose but i love the ides of our dogs on there... Or a sketch of our house :-D

So far, I think we are okay. Nothing like what I have seen discussed on the other thread. It's hard to tell b/c this stove is SO QUIET compared to the kozi we have running on the other side of the house. That one rattles so loud we have to yell over it. We were concerned about getting a stove in the family room but we were told the harmans are pretty quiet. The xxv being the quietest but so far we've been running the p61 on 3 or 4 and have only had to turn the TV up a little. Sounds a bit like a quiet white noise machine in the room - which, like I said, is nothing compared to the kozi!
