How about them apples?
NY does not have the cold reputation that MN or the Dakotas seem to "enjoy" (they receive the arctic cold more often), but we have a nice climate as well... along with prodigious amounts of white in certain areas! This temp was recorded this morning (Wed), and there are many reports of temps in the lower -30s, just not at official weather stations. I know, I know: You wish you were here so your could really test your stove's capabilities!

Unbelievable - you are kidding right? Never experience anything close to that.

I couldn't heat this place in cold like that,,,,, I'd be trying, but it just wouldn't happen. House isn't tight enough.

Down to -10F here, and it's nice in the house, but the stove had to get some help.

-2*F here....no wind, so I'd hafta say that won't come into play....got only about 8 inches of snow....stove is running, and loaded with Oak (2 y/o), and we're comfortable.

Update: Temp is still dropping, and the forecast for tonight is the same. Yesterday's high was -5::F, same for today. This gets old after a few days.

Was the picture of the car with snow from last night...was heading there today...? May have to change course...

This time of year Saranac Lake, NY frequently gets the national low temperature. Its either them, some place in MN, or Stanley, ID.
Northern NY sure is a bit of a different climate from the rest of the state.

We once went on a mid-winter vacation to Saranac Lake......wow, it was truly cold. I did get to see the ski jumps over in Lake Placid, though, and we even went skiing one day at a nearby mt.

Found a silver lining for the current weather / day off of work!

It dawned on me that if I defrosted freezer today I would not need to find coolers for the contents!

This deep freeze hasn't been defrosted since Sept of '07 when it went into service. <> A bit overdue for maintenance perhaps!

It bottomed out at -36 according to the National Weather Service. I'm sure there were some isolated places that flirted with -40. The snow photo is from December. Cheers!

gained a degree....-1*F....-15 Windchill. Went to snowblow the driveway....snowblower has heated grips to keep the hands warm (which it did), but my fingertips were numb in 15 minutes.....don't have gloves that give me the dexterity I need to run the Diff Lock on the snowblower, so I go without gloves

Hang in there, the days are getting longer. Spring is just starting here.

It's 48 deg and raining here, it's been mid thirties to mid forties a lot recently and is forecasted all thru the week as well. It plays havoc around here all the side roads and driveways are skating rinks all the snowmobiling skiing etc. sucks.

Were these photos taken this year???? If so, this just blows me away since it's 3 degrees here (probably colder since my remote thermometer is on the covered porch and it seems to run about 4 degrees warmer), cold, brown, gray and just generally everything is mono-chromatic. Very bleak. And cold. Did I mention the cold?

Seems as though Alaska and Maine just about always get the exact opposite when it comes to winter weather. When it's warm here, it's cold where you are . . . when we have a banner year for snow, you guys get very little . . . and vice versa. This may explain why my sister in Wasilla was excited about buying a dirt bike recently . . . sounds like the sledding . . . or snowmachining as you guys call it . . . stinks.

I have noticed the same thing with being opposite, I did find some good snow yesterday but I had to drive to cantwell, about two hours away.
