Hello, I have a Breckwell P2000i. The stove has sit unused for two seasons since we purchased the home, mostly due to the recent mild winters. This season I decided to start using it and last week we had a local service company come out and do a cleaning and initial start-up. It started and worked only one time since that appointment!

As it is now I turn on the stove and it does not light, the exhaust fan comes on, the on/off button illuminates, and the fuel feed button blinks every 10 seconds or so. The auger motor does not come on.

In the last week I have essentially taken the thing apart, researched the manual and online forums, and performed the tests outlined below to the best of my ability:

1) Adjusted the damper to different positions – No change

2) Lit the pellets manually – No change, the pellets burn out and additional pellets are not fed

3) Bypassed the proof of fire thermodisc and started – No change, but the second fan (convection blower) does come on

4) Bypassed the high temp thermodisk – No change

5) Bypassed the airswitch – No change

6) “Bench tested” the auger motor by powering with short/cut extension chord, wires taped to motor lead connectors – Auger motor spins with no problems

7) “Bench tested” the igniter by powering with short/cut extension chord, wires taped to igniter lead connectors – Igniter comes on red hot and ignites pellets placed in burnpot manually, the pellets burn out and additional pellets are not fed

8) Checked the fuses in the control panel, they appear to be fine

9) Tested the voltage at the igniter and auger motor connections during startup. I am not the best with a multimeter, but it appeared that the control panel was only sending about 35 volts to the igniter and even less to the auger motor. Again I might not have been doing this test correctly.

Any ideas what to try next? Any assistance is appreciated

I guess the silver lining in this ordeal is that I am getting to know allot about the stove and its internal components. If all else fails, I will probably call the service company back out, but would like to avoid the fee to repair, especially if it turns out to be a part replacement that I could easily order and install myself.

#5 air switch - you mean vacuum switch?
My guess is you found your answer with #9 - control panel. Others may chime in with advice...

Lakegirl – Thanks for the response. Correct, I bypassed the vacuum switch.

It may need a new control panel, but I would like to try any other tests before purchasing a $300+ part.

Also, is anyone aware of a company or individual that tests and repairs control panels? I could remove the thing and ship it just about anywhere.

I got the control panel back from the shop and re-installed. The auger motor now turns! But I am still having an issue with the igniter. The igniter comes on, heats up the burn pot, and the pellets right next to the igniter hole get “singed” but not enough to ignite. I can manually light the stove for now, but want to repair permanently.

The burn pot is seated correctly and as stated above the pellets ignited when direct power was applied to the igniter.

Could something be limiting the power to the igniter when going through the control panel?

Would cleaning the tip of the igniter help? If so, what is the best method?

Should I move the igniter further into the burn pot? There was probably only 1/8 inch movement available within the sleeve.

Any other ideas?

So did you just go for a repair on the old board or a whole new board? Did you use the guys in the above thread if just repaired?

some pellets do not like to light from the ignitor, especially if they are old or damp
are there enough pellets in the bowl @ the time of ignition?

What type of pellets are you using? Some of the hardwoods or lower quality pellets are tougher to get started. Try a softwood or blend? Did you pre-load auger? How full is the pot when the igniter kicks in? Have you tried adding a few pellets before you start the stove just to rule out the auger isn't dropping enough?

Link to the manual in case you don't have one, page 25 troubleshooting pellet ignition failure... Yes there is a current that runs through the board.
