So I was wondering why my flame looked funny...

This happened within 24 hours of burning Barefoots in the 25-PDVC

Do you normally burn Barefoots? Lousy pellet or bad batch? Hopefully you didn't buy a ton...

I have noticed that my Barefoot does something similar. It tends to build up on the side and when I scrape the burn pot i get what looks like what you have.

That clinker looks solid. I've had some ash turds hang a good 3 or 4", but nothing like that. I was burning Logic-E.

I am burning barefoots too and get the same thing along the edge of the burn pot. Eventually they get pushed out and into the ashpan.

I normally burn FSU's but I like to switch to Barefoots when the temp is below 10 degrees because they provide more heat. Out of the 5 bags I've burned this is the first clinker.

It was very solid

I'm getting quite a few spherical clinkers from my TSC pellets. I usually don't get any clinkers. They're about 1" diameter, and lots of crud clinging to the burnpot sides. I am running the stove at max because of the cold. It idles about 10 minutes an hour, the rest is running full bore. I clean the pot daily now.

I'm actually VERY disappointed in the barefoots this year to be honest.

I don't get clickers, but I'm getting massive ash rings around the burn pot.

That, and my stove eats through them MUCH faster than softwoods... about a half bag more a day. probably because by volume, they are less per pound than the softwoods.

Given they were the priciest thing I bought this year, I'm completely unimpressed with them and won't be buying them again. Heat output is good though, but it doesn't make up for it when my cheaper pellets put out similar heat and last longer and are cleaner.

Added to my list of Hearth.com-hyped pellets that actually suck.

Strange, I been burning Logic E`s all this season and find them to be a big improvement over the Lignetics I`ve burned in the past. Hotter burning, no clinkers and much less ash.
Maybe the stove makes a difference ?

Total opposite experience than me this year. I have burned nothing but stove chow and presto logs before this year and I could never imagine the amount of heat and less ash that I am getting from the barefoots this year. Actually just picked up another two tons last weekend.

I am burning about a quarter bag less per day using the barefoots and there is significantly less ash buildup, which in a pdvc is more than worth the price difference.

Well, presto logs and stove chow are a mediocre level pellet in the first place (IMO) that are ashy and not as hot.

Compared to other top-end pellets, BF's are at the bottom of my list.

If they were 225 a ton, i'd be raving about them.
but at 295 a ton, you can do better. given my stash this year, La Cretes blow them out of the pond

265 a ton for me. The only other choices around here are Hamers at the same price, Lignetics for 275, Black Hills for 305, Okie Doug Firs for 375. So barefoot and hamers are the cheapest of the non box store stuff. We really don't have any softwood options besides the Okies which are too expensive.

I haven't burned any of this years Logic. I've read good things about them. I would buy again.

I'm reading a lot of different threads that tell me quality control is a real problem with these pellets.

Hopefully the Hamers mentioned earlier are a better pellet. I just picked some up from lowes yesterday for when my Turman runs out sometime next month. The Turman burn great but at 5.50 a bag its too much with the amount of throttle I have left in the P61.

Barefoots are working really well for me especially during this wicked cold snap in Mass. When it warms up a bit (30 degrees), I'll use my Spruce Points.

I've been burning Barefoots for years and never had any issues with them. It must be a bad batch.

Have you burned any of the Spruces during this deep cold? They should hold their own.

Yes. I think there is a difference. Barefoots are my go-to pellets in really cold weather. I'm happy with Spruce Points but they don't burn as hot.

this is about 2 bags of barefoots in the past 36 hours in the burn pot.

not impressed with them at all.

fiber is just so volitle. a tree is a living thing. the source of product will never be exact.

the black hills suck too. i stopped burning them. they are a shoulder pellet. not hot at all. don't warrant their price at all. never again.

I have about 3/4 ton left of Barefoots from 2010-11. Never saw anything like that. Agree, they do burn faster than my other pellets but I want that HEAT under 5 degrees, and they do deliver. Sorry about your batch and if you read enough of these threads, you will see that the pellets all burn differently in different stoves and can change significantly in their manufacturing process from year to year. I spend a lot of time reading the posts and note the comments of those with similar stoves, in similar weather and with the pellets I can find available in my geo and at a good price point.
