I have a tasman 40i insert stove. here in Massachusetts it just got into the single digits. now the stove is struggling to keep even my living area downstairs @ 60 degrees. not sure whats going on. starting to think maybe i got smoked on this stove :) im using crappy inferno pellet but im thinking that it should atleast be able to keep the area that its in at 60 no matter the temp outside. let me know if anyone has any ideas on how i can possibly increase the heat output. at this point im getting frustrated with it, i bought this to save money on oil and im running my oil heat close to the same as I was before.

Have you tried increasing the heat output to a higher level? Another problem might be fines blocking the normal flow of pellets into the auger. Pulling out all of your pellets and vacuuming out any fines you see would fix that. Try pulling out the panels in the firebox area and do a thorough cleaning. I'll bet you have a bunch of ash back there that isn't doing your insert any good. You have to do a different cleaning, for every ton that's burned, than the cleaning you do in the firebox weekly(or more often).

If none of these things help you probably have a problem with your convection motor. That could be caused by the motor itself, a bad control board, wiring, or a sensor. Call you dealer and get a service call for a motor issue. It should be a warranty item.

You would be surprised how cold Infernos can keep your house. Switch pellets and you will see a dramatic difference.

Ya I'm thinking of buying better pellets and mixing them. After I clean the stove thoroughly the burn pot doesn't do that for a day or so but seems like a pain having to clean it everyday. Is mixing infernos with quality pellet a good idea?

It's easier than pulling the stove apart!

How big is your house. How bad are the air leaks. How many windows. What heated it before.Give the people here more info.

Its a good idea to use them up that way. I would mix them after seeing how other pellets burned though.

What type of pellets should I buy. I will have access to Lowes, home depot and tractor supply on sat.

Do you have to go to the mainland to get pellets? Must be cold on MW! Love that place. My parents live in Falmouth.

Read the pellet reviews at the top of the main page of the pellet mill. Make a list of good ones and bad ones so when you go off Island you have it handy.
I have fond memories of Edgartown in the early 70's working at the Harborside Inn, I am originally from Falmouth too
Edit: there is a pellet stove dealer in Falmouth near Mcdonalds and probaby more if your going into Hyannis. You will pay more per bag at a dealer but it is important to see the difference between Infernos and Quality pellets

Nice - my parents have a timeshare at Harborside Inn. We go in October - and even then the Island is very quiet!

Try different pellets and make sure your vent is clean!

How many bags a day are you burning?

Based on the name, I'm guessing your insert is rated at 40,000 BTU/hr. If so, it should be able to burn through a bag in about 8 hours (3 bags a day) at maximum heat.
