Help with P35i

Im running a P35i no oak..i burning bag 4 of a ton of Okie's DF's..i read prior to getting the Okies' that the feed rate should be adjusted because of the consistency of these pellets..so I adjusted the feed rate to 2.5 so I fill the hopper with the oaks and go to bed..wake up in the am and the top of the glass is BLACK..and I have this BIG "Lazy" flame that appears to be bouncing off the heat exchanger and onto the glass...and inside the pot is a bed full of HOT pellets..no pellets going over the edge, just a bed.. I also read that it's not good to have that BIG flame on he exchange pipe..this is all happening in room temp, high fan, and 75degree...How can I get the flame down and get the butane like flame again... I was anticipating not having to clean the glass for at least a week or so.. due to the pellets burning so clean..thanks in advance...

will do...but did that in anticipation of getting these pellets...cleaned it good too!!!!!!!!!
 
Turn the feed rate down to 2. I never burned Oakie DF but I have burned really dense pellets and it I don't lower the rate, it does the same thing. Worth a shot. Even a little lower, if needed. People say it's not supposed to make a difference, but it does on mine.
 
I got it shut down now to clean and will try the 2 feed rate. Thanks for the replies..will keep u posted..

I'm here learning . Just curious when do you do a full clean very ton?

Something's not right. I am burning Okie's this year and did not have to play with the feed rate at all. The stove is just burning much cleaner. Sound like you cleaned just before you started burning the okie's. I would double check any thing that could be causing air flow issues or air leaks. Posting some pictures of the flame would be helpful to determine if you have a lazy flame.

Are the seals all tight, or is there an air leak causing incomplete combustion? Check the hopper gasket that is not worn or debris ie pellet propping it open. The big flame is no problem. When mine gets cranking it shoots up into the top of the unit which is somewhat disconcerting, but normal when the unit calls for more heat quickly. I personally don't lower my feed rate below 3.5. I think your problem is actually too LOW a setting, and that when your unit is actually calling for more pellets it is unable to provide thus burning the coaled pellets in the burn pot longer or more smolderingly.
 
Check your side plates, it sounds like one is a little off.
 
Do everything said above, but it sounds like an air leak or an airflow issue. If you don't have an OAK pull the stove out and check the air intake flapper can move freely, those are known to seize up. Also there have been reports of the hopper gasket on the P35i's not sealing too well after awhile, would check to make sure it's making a positive seal.

Feed rate of 2 sounds way too low. You need to maintain at least a 3.5 feed rate.
