That 25 ft. ceiling is a killer

Damn that's pretty impressive. I have a hard time keeping my house above 65 when it's less than 25F and I have 2,500 sq ft and a 3 cu ft firebox which is larger than yours. But I also have a ton of windows and a 25 ft ceiling in the room with the insert. It's also only my third week burning so i'm hoping i can dial it in more over time and get better at this...
If I had to go to work for 8 or 10 hours a day I wouldnt be able to keep the stove going but since Im a self employed Realtor/property manager Im in and out of my house all day long. If I let it go out everything gets cold and it takes for ever for me to heat up all the mass. Last year we had a really mild winter where the coldest day was Christmas day at -9f. I didnt need to use the furnace at all that year unless we were away.

My EPA 2.3 CF box Drolet will keep up down to -25F if I watch it and feed it wood. The house is 3000 sq ft but 1200 of it is basement which is 53 now with days of below zero temps. I keep the upstairs at whatever... 65-68. It is super insulated.

-30 again this morning, but inside temp was 74!! Temp has gone up 43 degrees today; its now +13, but windy. House is a modular of about 1600 sf. Not 1 gal of propane used in 3 years. I did reload the king twice in the last 24 hrs, which is not the normal cycle. I am building up a lot of coals/ash, so I can't fit quite as much wood in the box right now.
-30 static? That was ours here in the northwoods with no wind factored in.

OK, last night I decided to go all out. Used up my special oak (less than 15% on fresh split on MM) and use Envi-blocks at the same time.
Loaded every 4 hours with air half open.

Here are the results: 15 outside and 87.4 inside. The rest of the house got to a minimum of 70 throughout.
Not bad, but only doable because the Envi's don't create coals so the stove doesn't overfill.

Still though, I am glad my stove can accomplish this.

I'd be throwing open the windows here if it were 87 in my place! lol

The edenpure kicked on this morning for the first time... my thermometer said it was -26 outside and 70 inside. I reloaded the stove and it soon warmed up enough to keep mama happy. I loaded the stove last night at 7pm, and it was at 4am (I get up early for work) that the house was so cold. I took the pic just for my wife! 1-28-2014 (Small).jpg

Agreed on both points.

I have a similar distribution problem, but I have no doubt that my insert could easily keep an open plan space above 70F down to 0F.
I'm happy to let my propane furnace run for a few minutes each hour when it's this cold (single digits overnight at the moment), it warms the bedrooms and distributes the stove heat too. I've been experimenting with various options and this year I've settled on closing the supply register in the stove room, and using a small fan in the hallway floor blowing air into the stove room for an hour or two before we go to bed.

Get a Therm Guard furnace fan timer. you can program it however you want to.

Yes, no wind chill. Actual air temp was -37 ::F at the local airport (closest official weather station) one day last week. Different people reported -40 in certain areas on their car thermometers while driving. It was -29, -37, -30 on three different mornings. However, it has warmed up to single digits below zero at night and single digits above zero in the day so far this week! Yay relative heat!
Also some lake effect snow Monday  Cold AND snow, you gotta love it, don't ya? And yet the Blaze King cruises on, oblivious to the vortexing and drifting all around it...

As many others have found before me, the heat loss from ducts mostly negates the benefits of running the fan alone. 68F air blowing out of the vents feels nice in the summer, but not in the winter. Also, when running in heat mode, my furnace fan runs at high speed, but when in fan-only mode it runs much slower.
