so the burn season begins

You guys are nuts. Its still 90 degrees here.

last night I burned a few peices of oak 1x3 my buddy was using to trim out his cabinets- it was nice to have the stove going again, but kind of wierd doing it in august

Im with Corie still 90 here and forcast for the same the rest of the week. We wont be burning here for close to 2 months.

Yep. Don't burn until after Halloween.

Crazy!! If I had a fire in my "old inefficient fireplace" now, I would have to turn the AC on!

I lit my fire up for the first time this morning. It's been over cast and rainy here and the temp in the house was slowly falling. The stove fixed that.

Forecasted high this saturday here in DC: 96 degrees.

I'll admit - been a little bit on the cool side here this week - I did break down and lit up the stove to take the chill out. It's been in the mid to lower 40's when I leave for work, so this week - I've been taking the truck and leaving the bike at home. We usually get a little "cool snap" in August, but I'm sure we'll be back up to hot temps in a few days.

It must be a Mass thing....
We had a showing in the house tonite and fired up the stove to help take the chill out........
I'll miss the NE Weather and the up and down temps

Have Dipped into the wood pile three times so far this August. 1 C this am. If I have a beer before bed it wakes me @ 2 am. I will light the fire make my lunch close the by pass Knock the stat back. & hit the hay again. Toasty in the morn. Was in michigan last week for the UA pipefitters instructors in Ann Arbor. You Guyes can keep your humidity. Nice trees though Cabellas was big. hh:

Well folks, we need to temper our urges. To light a fire at 65*F outside is a sacrilege. I February, you'd be opening the windows and commenting on the mild and balmy weather. A sweater or sweatshirt now is better than a fire. Patience. I will see who is jumping the gun now and remind them in February.

If you are uncomfortable now, switch to the flannel top sheet. I'm just starting to use a top sheet.

Don't knock the fruit cakes - they were the inspiration for BioBricks! ;-P Actually the Collin St. Bakery down in TX makes a really great fruit cake that is actually edible... (We don't any more since we're Low Carbing, but we have fond memories of them and occasionally send Collin St. stuff to friends / relatives as gifts...

(I might have been tempted to burn a fire, but right now I just have a pipe hanging down where my stove used to be... )

I almost fired it up this past weekend. We left all the windows in the house open and it was 58 when I got up
BRRRRRRRRRRRRR, it hasnt been that cold in the house in a LONG time.
Then I thought....... ITS AUGUST! I dont want to take the desiccant bag out of the stove yet!

Same thing happened to me, we left the windows open last weekend and it dipped down to a bone chilling 65 in the house! ;-) That gave me an opportunity to try out my pellet basket for my fireplace I had made at a local metal fab. I filled her up about half way or about 12lbs of pellets, took awhile to light off, but it worked pretty good and threw some decent heat. The fire lasted about 4 hrs and was a little smokey at times but the house temp came up to 75 in 2 hrs. I still have a little tweaking to do with this, but it just might work out good for an occasional fire in my fireplace without the mess from firewood.

Burning season started for me in June when we had a couple days where it dipped into the low 40's overnight. Ran the stove again on the 4th of July because it was cold (high 50's) and rainy...there were no fireworks that night. I came very close to lighting a fire on Sunday and Monday night (overnight 40's again), but I'm just starting to get organized for the winter so I didn't have anything handy to light it with...could have split a couple rounds if I really wanted to I suppose.

was going to light up yesterday.. but with the stove taken apart, I was SOL :lol: perfect weather to split/stack some of the '08 stash though...

I am with Uncle here. Last year, being the first year with any woodstove in the house, I started burning in early/mid Spetember..I ran out of wood in April! Not good.Thish year, although I am way better off with the amount of wood storage (enough for 2 good years of burning) I have decided not to light the stove until at least October 1. I would rather have the furnace kick on a couple times a day/night for now.

My OL has been using the electric heated blanket all year, with the exception of 90+ degree days, but still bundles under a comforter.
I just don't get it, I use a small thin blanket and kick that off half the time.
I should make her pay the electric bill Electric blanket in August, now thats insane!

The "Honey I'm cold" sydrome??? (Biggest reason I went the wood fired boiler route)... Crank up the boiler then ask "Want me to turn up the heat??" and get a resounding "NO" for a reply.

Even though the whole OWB issue is a PITA personally for me... Sometimes it's nice to get out into the cold to 'cool off'...in more ways than one. lol
