Alternatively, the OP could use this as his guidance from his manual. If he can secure the aluminum foil with nails and sealant, then go for it I guess.

True, missed that specificity. I also see that Osburn considers Roxul as meeting block off plate specs (CAN B365) in Canada. Who knew.
I learned that today. Funny how in all the discussions on here about Roxul and block off plates that hasn't come up before, not even from a moderator.
Lots of people here have used Roxul for block off plates. It is the dealers and sweeps stuffing fiberglass in the chimney that sets me off. I don't like Roxel exposed for one because of the short fibers in the stuff and the possibility of them getting blown out into the live space. Mine is sheet metal with a pile of Roxul on top of it.
ETA: And the sealing collar around the liner to cover the space in the hole between the plate and the liner is an aluminum pie plate.
Ok ok , didn't mean to start a war, I have Roxul and from what I read the Roxul will allow heat to pass through it , I have a hard time getting into my insert because I'm almost maxed out I can get a drill in there sideways to screw the collar into the insert but that's it , maybe I'll just pull the insert out this summer when I'm bored and do it right. Not sure if it will be worth the time because my insert heats fine but who knows. You guys are great even those less experience who posted about potatoes and aliens .
