Well, I've considered this winter to be my learning year of pellet stove ownership. Back in August of last year I installed a new Harman 52i , which went quite smoothly. I purchased 1 ton each of New Englands, Black Hills, and Okanagan pellets. Blew through them by the end of January and needed to pick up another ton to get me through the remainder of the winter. Rather than spending the $280+ for one of the brands above I went to Lowes and saw they had some Green Supremes. I picked up 1 ton and took them home.

I started using the Green Supremes despite still having 10 or so bags of Okanagans left. My house has been warmer while using the Green Supremes than while using any of the brands above. My upstairs is never above 62 with the other brands and for some reason now it gets to 68 easily. My downstairs is now routinely above 70 (thermostat is quite far from the pellet stove).

So, I've learned there is no reason to spend $290 on Okanagans when the $220 brand will heat your home better.

Its the stove!! "grasshopper"(delivered with Japanese accent) I burned 9 tons of green supremes and my only complaint is covered in the thread "Greene supremes VS stove chow" When EVER you see a pellet report check what stove they use before you give it "credence" Lesser stoves tend to be fussy when it comes to pellets

Green Supreme work good for me and I was also told they are N.E. Wood Pellets anyway.
My lesser stove is not fussy and will burn any pellet but the soot and ash from lesser pellets build up just the same in a lesser stove VS. an expensive one.
I have seen postings of folks with expensive stoves have issue burning lesser pellets, especially ones were if the pellet is not uniform in size and they have an upward moving auger VS. horizontal which gets jammed.

Green Supreme is NEWP, but there are 2 plants. Jaffrey NH and Schuyler NY. The Jaffrey ones are supposed to be better.
Do you get the same burn time out of a bag?
For me, the GS was way more ashy and almost 2 hrs less from a bag vs Black Hills Heat or Vermonts.

Then I guess you don't have a "lesser" stove.!!! I'm just saying I don't have to try a pellet before I buy quantity, I don't have a "shoulder pellet" or check anything but the price when purchasing pellets. This year I have already burned 8+ tons of green supremes , 1/2 + ton of stove chow. The ash was more then I'm use to but my stove is unphased . I'm guessing the word fussy bothers some around here. A stove that burns everything and still puts out a constant heat with minimal adjustments...".aaah....that's the rub"

Hi Not sure who your asking but anyway,
I have burned both NEWP and Green Supreme and the appear to be about the same ash and heat,
I have never burned Black Hills but have burned Vermont's and they did have less ash.
On low settings I get the same burn time out of any pellet,
thanks

I have no idea how long a bag lasts. Its very hard to measure with a 1550 lb hopper

Granted that the stove is often more or less tolerant of the pellets it is fed, but there are many variables which will contribute to a pellets "perceived" BTU output. Cleaning frequency and it's timing in relation change of pellets. Snow cover. Outdoor temp. Wind speed and convective cooling is HUGE and often not factored in. Heating a house with outdoor temps at zero but no wind is MUCH EASIER to heat and maintain than the same house at twenty degrees and 15-20 mph winds. I have noticed as well, that even though the temps have been cold as they were, there has been no wind at the house is much warmer and I go through less pellets per day. And that is with using the same pellets;)

Are they part of Curran wood pellets out of NY?
I doubt it They are up Massena way...also a pellet I have had good luck with "north amarican" if I;m not mistaken

You forgot the amount of "kool-aid" consumed around here. I think its human nature to "jump on the band wagon" and bash a pellet...sometimes by "parroting" what other "neigh Sayers" tout....just saying....Green Supremes are my "case and point"

Wow, I'm amazed At the difference in opinion here. I think they are some of the worst crap I have burned, right up there with Infernos. If all you burn is 1 brand on what do you base a comparison? I have burned MWP blend and softwood, Ambiance, North American blend, presto logs, Indiana Wood and Lignetics Blue.
Oh yes! Cubex also. Heat output, ash level, level of fines in bag, clinkers and burn pot cleanliness all factor in.
I just read a post saying Green Supremes burn better than Okanagans in his Harman. I give up.

I have never had an issue with them or NEWP but pellets do vary by mfg per year and season.
Been burning mostly Cubex this season as last and last years were not good and this years a very good.

by how my stove reacted to several tons of North Americans (last years bashed pellet) stove chow 1 ton, O Mallies1 ton, sommer sets 1 ton(last years most praised) barefoots1 ton and 1/2 ton of vermonts. the ONLY noticeable difference was I LOVED the smell of the vermonts when you open the bag. It took me a while to stop drinking the
kool-aid

I agree.....but the same Kool Aid drinking happens with stoves as well. Not to start another thread or argument but how many people buy a Harman and say how great they are but yet it is the only stove they have ever owned or seen run and have no frame of reference........

I am a big believer in taking everything hear and read with a grain of salt and make your own judgments after some experience.

I agree ...to a point. I think there are a lot of good stoves out there ...and a commonality is every body has one. BUT your statement would better bolster my statement too..They never have lived with a Harman so they have "no frame of reference"

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. I cannot accurately say a Harman is better or worse than my stove without having used one.

And one cannot accurately say their Harman is better or worse than mine without having used one.

PS.....I am in no way bashing Harman, just using them as an example.

No issue with GS for me ( yes more ash ) and I have burned many brands .

I agree 100% just like you cant accurately say a Mercedes is better or worse then say an AMC Pacer....I get it!!!

You are also a thin skinned bunch too. Any brand that commands the money they do for their stoves should make a good product. Nobody said they don't make a good product, just that they weren't the only game in town. You have every right to love your product but looking down your noses at other peoples choice make you arrogant or ignorant. Do you all drive BMW's too. Bully for you.
