I have a chance to score some oak 4x4 pipe line pallets but they have a little paint over spray on them. I don't want to hurt the environment or my stove, so do you think I need to remove it or I would be ok burning it? Sorry no pictures.

I think the consensus is don't burn treated wood - pressure treated, painted, varnished, etc. Who knows what toxins are in what you are burning? Cheers!

Oh - thought they were painted pallets - I suppose if there is just a little bit, it's not much to worry about - probably wouldn't even sand. Cheers!

I wouldn't worry about a little overspray

I'm sure a lot of trees we scrounge have paint for marking (esp power line work, etc)

Overspray? Your own wood stove had overspray on it originally. I'd burn it.

Spot of paint . . . no worries . . . at least for me.

cut them puppies to length and burn baby burn :ZZZ

You have a choice.... burn them or throw them in the landfill.

I know what I'd do.

I work on a pipe crew for a living. Those waterline 4x4s are great to burn. Almost all are oak. Every now and then you get a board that is entirely covered with the pipe coating. I leave those behind.

Thanks for all the replies especially yours Wilhelm it's good to hear from someone who has experience burning them.

I picked up a couple of pipeline pallets. They measure 4" x 5" x 8' smells like oak. I was hoping to get some ready to burn wood but the moisture reading was 33%. I still hope to get some of the wood I'm just less excited about it.
