They seem to be a lot cheaper in the west. I'd still buy a couple pallets of these if I was in a bind before I'd buy the eco or bio bricks, these last a lot longer and throw some serious heat.

I guess I need to try some now (kinda looking forward to it). Hope the learning curve is not too steep._g

OK, one more question.

The local lumber yard stores their stock of NEILS just outside of the building but under a roof (with the plywood, drywall, decking, etc.), would I have to worry about buying NEILS from them that had taken up too much moisture? Or does the plastic wrap they come in protect them?

Thanks.

If they absorbed moisture you could tell by looking at them. I would think they'd be fine unless water fell directly on them.

The plastic wrap that they are delivered with is not water proof. These logs will start to absorb moisture if kept in a moist environment . I would think that if they sell thru quickly you should be fine. Your area is quite a bit drier than the west side of Cascades.

I've been testing out the 60 I got. I like how adjustable the size is, my stoves are horizontal, so a quick hatchet blow splits them in half. I also make 1" thick pieces for starters. They do produce alot heat. Had my house up to 77 this morning (stove temp 655) using 2.5, 3 halfs NS, and a whole on top. Was worried that the whole on top would roll toward the glass, but it didn't. I think 1.5-2 is tops for the Regency insert.

On Sunday I put 4 halfs NS in the Morso, burn was more controllled. It was 76 in the room in no time. The folks where I bought them said to order in April, their cheapest then, they will hold them for you until the next winter. I see them at 349/PAL now. I'll check the price in April.
