I am probably 5 years to late but does anybody know whey the damper does not close on this model?
It starts to hit the rod/pin after years of service, As I pull the lever to close the damper it hits the pin & rod assembly. I have twice file it down not I am worried the pin may fall out.

Thanks. I did tighten the bottom bolts inside the firebox and it did help.
The nut on the outside top of lever is far in there I need to look for long wrench to reach.
 
How wiped out is your gasket?
