This is real. Wood gas was used to power vehicles as early as 1901. Germany had 500,000 vehicles running on wood gas at the end of WW2. Wood gas vehicles are in use in N Korea today.

From the picture alone, we can not conclude that he is doing anything but gaining cab heat from the stove.
