US Stove Window Mount Pellet Stove Starts Yet Another House Fire

I have no idea how this thing hasn't been recalled yet.

There was a post on here the other day with the OP praising them.

I just saw a working one in a window at the local Hookset NH hearth shop. It puts out real nice heat. There is piece that must be plugged into the back so it directs the flue gasses away from the window frame. The stove will not fit into the box with that piece conected! I would still question the installation here!

These things are dangerous no matter which way you look at it, and I would be damn if I would have that in my house with my familys saftey in mind. They need to do away with these, and concentrate on there freestanding models.

There are so many violations of NFPA211 with this unit.

Once again insufficient information in the story.

From the picture it looks like the fire was above the vent level Don and on the inside of the house.

There aren't too many leprechauns in Maine our's must be very mobile and busy.

We do have a few pictures on here that might just point to a possible cause but again possible and actual aren't always the same.

its the windows fault, for sure.

I saw one of these things at my local building supply last year... I got a real bad vibe off it.. now I know why! Not the most brilliant idea to stick a flaming firebox out the living room window.. What could possibly go wrong?

There is one of these in our local stove shop. Price being slashed every few months. Now it makes sense.

ps. I know, I know, revival.

Fleet farm has the old model on sale for 2 years and still no takers around here. Must be a smarter bunch of folk around here. $800

I don't know much about the window mounts, but have they been the cause of more fires than an ordinary wood burner as there are lots of stoves that cause fires.Can it be blamed on poor installation and poor maintenance like some wood stove fires?

I know what you mean. The owner of the local stove shop is ready to give it away... but no one wants it

Probably safer just to light a campfire in the center of the living room instead.

The missing bits and PIECES are, was the stoves vented correctly, and was it cleaned and operated correctly ?????????????

So many variables when it comes to appliances that burn anything.

also dont know if the homowners did something like put curtains up in that window.

People drive away from gas pumps with the nozzle still in their car... I think the window pellet stove would work for most of the members of this forum who are educated and actually clean their stove..Pellets stoves are not for the general public, not even properly installed FS or inserts. JMO

Personally I think its a great idea. I liked the "idea" as soon as I saw it. I'll bet there were MANY "neigh sayers" when "wilbur and orville wright" started "tinkering"... Yes, test...test test.....But make no mistake about it ...NOTHING is "IDIOT proof"
It SO reminds me of the saying..."winners find solutions to problems...losers find problems in solutions"
This "concept" is second to none....Put it in in the fall...store it in the spring...almost never in the way...no need to put permanent hole in structure... OAK could be integrated...
