Hello~ Need some help.

I just purchased a Hearthstone Tribute to replace the free standing fireplace I had in my Family room. I want to do this right and be safe also.

I need a stove pipe from my wood burner to the ceiling. The Tribute has a 6" opening and the pipe going out is double wall 8". I believe I would need a adapter to increase the 6" opening to 8" and also need about 4' of pipe.

Can anyone recommend a online company to purchase these items and what exact pipe and increaser is recommended?

There are a number of online vendors, I've had good luck with hartshearth.com, but a google search will turn up many options.

You're right about the parts - a 6" to 8" adapter, and a length of 8" pipe to get up to the existing pipe. I'm assuming you'd place the adapter at the bottom - IMHO throwing the adapter in the middle would look goofy.

You could certainly run 6" up from the stove, then do the adapter right before entering the thimble at the ceiling - that would probably make the cleanest look ant the easiest install.

After dealing with four online vendors I definately concur with Hart's Hearth. They ask the right questions and give good advice but don't try to do your thinking for you.

BB - Who has opened one too many boxes only to find that somebody thought he really needed a different part than he ordered.

Now THAT is a good one!

triage, do you know what brand of pipe is in the original 8" installation?

This is my concern. Without knowing the original pipe mfg. you are mating to, there could be a mismatch.

Visually, I would prefer the narrow pipe up the adapter meeting the existing pipe. But that's up to you.

I would agree that it would be helpful to know the mfg of the original pipe - it won't hurt to see if you can find any labels or stamping in the metal that might help ID it...

I also think the telescoping pipe is a good idea, possibly in combination with a length of normal pipe depending on what you need for a total. Seems to me like few folks are likely to have a perfect match to the stock lengths, and the telescope is easier to deal with than trying to trim to fit. It also makes the pipe easier to assemble and take apart for cleaning later.
