Recently installed a pellet insert. Thinking of contacting my home owners insurance company. Anyone have experience in what the will say?

My company wanted to be notified of pellet installation, would not change my insurance cost, & said they could put evidence of professional installation into my file if I sent that along…suggested it would be helpful in the event of a fire.
I have thought about going the route of a pellergy replacement burner [burning pellets in a burner that would fit in to existing Buderus boiler.]
Two calls to insurance made me think my particular company simply would not accept pellets as a primary source of heat, but I could be wrong about that.

We recently changed our insurance and our local agent (who already had my auto coverage) came to the house for an inspection. He took pictures of, among other things, the pellet stove. There was no problem about getting the policy issued and it was approved by the company the next day.

My insurance company wanted the certificate of inspection which validated the install was safe and to code. I think they had asked about fire and CO detectors as well.

In NH with my agent, they are still looking for oil as primary heat source... In actuality, a wood stove or whatever may be running all day and negate oil furnace, but to answer the question, I have oil.
Also too, ins is looking for professional install and a local fire permit doesn't hurt. I have had ins agents up taking pictures as they do...saw 7 cords of wood stacked and a jotul fireside in the den - never an issue. Now if I had a pit bull lying in front of the stove, I think my premium would go up.

I have the Pellergy units at both my houses and my insurance company doesn't have a problem with them.

I just installed last week. I called the broker and was provided the insurers wood stove questionnaire. It's focus was on type (wood or pellet), installer and contact, make model and certification, fireproof materials clearances according to typical code reqts, venting pathetic, professional cleaning and date of last cleaning. Spoke to the stove shop and they explained they typically also get a call re bonding and insurance binder. Hope this helps. Oh by the way, all they said was thanks, it's in the file.

I called our insurance and i was told that as long as we have it professionally installed, our rates will not change. But, if we decided to install it ourselves then they would require inspection and more likely our rate in homeowners insurance would go up.
I really think it depends on the insurance company.
Friends of ours had it professionally installed and their rate went up AND they are required to submit a inspection/cleaning report every year.

If you run into trouble I would highly suggest that its time to shop around. Plenty of good insurance companies will cover you at no additional cost.

When I changed insurance they wanted to have a certification that the ventng was professionally cleaned annually. I indicated that my cleanings: once/week or so vacuum stove and empty ash pan and 2-3 times per year vent pathway brush cleaned with leafblower polish, and 1X per year exhaust blower removal and cleaning; they still didn't buy it.
We settled on having a professional come in one time and inspect it and certify that it was clean

most insurance companies do not raise your rate...
I would have told them that and switched companies before I would have consented to let them raise the rate.

Yea it was a lot like $600 a year I was mad.So I raised my deductible to off set it.
Just called mine, (Erie), they asked a couple questions and said they would put in my file that I called. No increase, good news.

Had the Building Inspector sign off. Notified Insurance co. No Extra Cost on my insurance. As said previous. More interested in the Fire Place. As my stove went in the Existing Fireplace, nothing changed.
