Well after 15 years of cutting, hauling, splitting, stacking and tending the woodburner, the boss just demoted me to chief wood cutter. She has gotten good at keeping the fire going and is comfortable doing it. But that's a demotion I can deal with, now it's just me and the saws no worries about the house is too cold or too hot.==c

Awesome, I've been slowly getting my girlfriend comfortable adding wood to the stove, but she's still afraid to mess with the air inlet valves and she barely paid attention last week when I made her watch me start a fire. I'm hoping by next winter when we're married and she's officially moved in I can get her to start fires and control it herself, because I often have to travel for work and I'd hate to be gone knowing she turned on the electric furnace.

Ah, the old "he/she will change after we're married" thing. Let us know how that goes

I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Her parents had a wood burning stove growing up, so she's used to adding firewood and doesn't have a problem with that. But her dad never let her do more, so she doesn't trust herself to do more.

Heck, when we first met 18 months ago she could barely turn on an oven, and now has cooked many great meals for both of our families with 15+ people, so I'm confident she can change a little more.

Every year, the second time I clean the Revolution, my wife wants me to show her how to do it. So, I do. Next year, same thing. Glad she's prepared .

My Wife is getting comfortable with the stove also......the one thing I need her to change, is stop leaving newspaper and kindling next to the stove, between the stove and the poker.....of all places

That's one thing I never had to worry about, she hates paying the elec. co. Another reason she has no problem keeping the fire burning. I'm on the road myself all day leave at 5am and home whenever I get done, I used to load the stove when I left in the morning (well I still do that she won't get up at 4am) and she would add wood through the day and I would load it again before bed. Now I just have to make sure there is wood on the deck by the door, since she is now the "Official Fireman" but no complaints from me. Just have her start keeping the fire on her own while you are around once she is confident she can do it you will be as they say "in high cotton". Maybe if you're real lucky you can get yourself fired from stove duty like I did. Good luck!

I've been demoted and promoted from fire duties so many times my head spins. I never get demoted from the heavy work ever. Strange....

I don't get demoted from any of the work.

Damned wife / girlfriend

Take 'em all out behind the barn, and teach them a lesson, I say.

I'm sure they have secrets they never tell us when it comes to heating the home - my youngest daughter usually keeps her straight and lights the fire herself. I have had many close call secrets I never share - don't want them to worry. I just better learn from my mistakes.

Maybe I am blessed......

My wife will clean and tend the stove anytime I am not around (and occasionally just because).

Today she spend 4 hours helping me split and stack firewood (and yes she did some splitting). For a little 5 foot tall woman, she is starting to get used to that maul.
