2200lbs of pellets yeilded 40lbs of ash. Was just talking to the neighbour about this last night. He burnt through a hole ton before cleaning. Said he could have gone even longer. He is burning with a maxim 250

What are the differences in pellets since the Atikokan plant will be using "industrial grade" pellets? Larger diameter, longer size? Or just bulk capacities?

pellets are 8mm rather than standard 6mm. also just slightly longer but the pellets I've seen lately at the store are just as long. lots of people around here burning them in all kinds of stoves and boilers haven't heard any problems yet

Sounds interesting! Might get ONR to deliver to my doorstep, lol! I would have to build a outside hopper to feed my pellet furnace when i get around to it. Are these softwoods?

GM Polar Bear. I was in Gravenhurst on Tuesday and picked up 2 bags of Lacwood pellets at Home Hardware at $6.50 a bag, OUCH
. Right now I am in North Bay for a few days and will check prices here. I will try the Lacwood when I get back home. At a $1.50 more then Trebio and Satisfaction they are a little steep in price, would need a extra 5 hour burn time to break even per bag and good luck with that.Was at WalMart last night in North Bay and picked up the last bag of Trebio and was told they will not be getting any more in, that was the sales person and not a manager. I'll be at the Northgate mall today and will check back in and see.

I burn Lacwood pellets manufactured in Hearst Ontario. They burn quite clean, others seem to be hotter but it might just be related to the pellet size.

Was at WalMart last night in North Bay and picked up the last bag of Trebio and was told they will not be getting any more in, that was the sales person and not a manager. I'll be at the Northgate mall today and will check back in and see.
$6.50/bag? That's crazy. Apparently Pinehill in Lively sells them for $5/bag. Never confirmed, just heard that. Will check that out very soon.

At $120 a ton you have sparked my interest. I have a 5 ton dump trailer lovingly called ... BIG BOX BERTHA ...sitting around looking for work .
Would have to try some to see if the stove has any reservations with them.

First 3 years I used Eastern Embers in my stove, but found them going downhill with less and less heat...Last 2 years its mainly been Comfy Cozy....they aren't great for heat either and seem to be a little dirtier....have burned a bit of Trebio, but would love to have more variety.....I've been averaging $5 a bag so costs haven't been too bad.

Have you purchased them recently? They have swithched their process as of lately and I am finding less and less fines now. Unfortunately, we don't have the greatest selection up here and I am trying to find out what's the best pellets around.

Ya the plant is maybe 10 min north on hwy 11 turn left on development road then left right away on pellet rd

Going on my second ton of La Crete....less deposits (clinkers) than Ambiance with just as good of heat and much better than Satisfaction. I may see if I can buy a truck load next year and sell a few ton since there is only one retailer that I know of in the province.

Last couple of bags I bought were Trebio at Walmart..under 5.00/bag! I liked them better then the Comfy cozy....too bad Walmart doesn't deliver....best I can do is pick up about 15 bags at a a time.

kah68 Let me know if you go for the truckload of La Cretes . I'm south of you in Ennismore. I won't deal with that outfit in Marmora had a bad experience with them and will not go back.

To the OP, I notice you are in Guelph. We are just outside Stratford, and have been dealing primarily with www.gildalefarms.ca just north of St. Mary's. We initially went with their premium hardwood, but when we went back to buy more (we fired up our stove a week-ish ago), they gave us a part bag of their softwood that is imported from BC (Pinnacle Premium SPF). We tested those out yesterday and LOVED them, so will be picking up more of those next time. Both their premium hardwood and the pinnacle pellets are $5.50/bag ($275/ton), but they also offer 1ton bulk bags or bulk deliveries. They deliver to a huge area for $20/ton, though obviously I would suggest trying a few bags before ordering We'll be clearing out space in the basement and spending some time in September hauling our winter 'stash'!
We also bought 5 bags from Crosswood farms just outside of Welleseley. They are labeled a "softwood", but are made from hardwood skids. They are $4/bag, so cheap, BUT we noticed a lot of ash in our stove after just one bag, so have decided to hold the rest back for when we are in milder weather, and not having to burn 2 bags/day to heat this massive house. Friends of ours heat exclusively with these pellets, but they also have 2 pellets stoves, so don't have to push them as hard to get the heat to the whole house, so that may help? We have to use a number of fans to move heat to everywhere in the house (4bdrm farmhouse w 10' ceilings down and 9' ceilings up!), so our stove works pretty hard, but even then, we haven't had it higher than level 4 of 6.
