I disagree 100%. I started fires with newspapers for years and sometimes had to clean my cap towards the end of the year. When i switched to starters, that problem never returned. My cap does not have a screen either. I think its better practice to use starters, whether its super cedars, fatwood, pine cones, etc."The owners just might be crazy"

We rented a condo in NC one weekend while skiing. They had a note on the fireplace not to use Duraflame type logs......

We stayed in a suite in Atlanta once, and they had fireplaces. They only allowed Duraflame as well, but the purchase price at the counter was the same as the store down the road, so they weren't trying to rip us off. We burned one just for the ambiance.We were at a very nice resort once that only allowed Duraflame logs to be burned in the fireplace. I asked and was told that it was all about safety and that some guests were trying to create bonfires inside and it was an insurance & safety issue. One of us might use a few pages of newspaper to start a fire and some other idiot might use 100 pages all at once. Hard to believe but some people need rules when they ain't got brains.
