Finally got my first wood score under my belt. This is my first year burning and today I saw a CL ad for free pine in 4 ft lengths. Got a nice truck load out of it and will be splitting and stacking soon. Got to use my new poulin pro 50cc to buck it all up. In all the new saw has bucked up and 3 cord since Saturday and its running strong. Thanks for all the info on this site its helped me out a lot. Here's a pic of where the wood will be sitting til some of this snow melts

Nice! There's a few BTU's in that stack!

.....and so it begins, the scrounging bug is evil....all you do is find yourself chasing the sound of chainsaws in the distance looking for that next score:cool:

Seriously I've been looking for road crews all day since I'm on the road anyways (self employed contractor) to ask about getting some firewood. I'm hoping my saw becomes a permenant fixture in my truck so I can pick up wood from various job sites I'm on

If your ok with pine there will be plenty available for the scrounge, its the hardwood that's rare.

I buy tree length mixed hardwoods ( mostly beech and oak I think) by the truckload at a pretty decent price. I figure I'll buy 6 cord this year and with the 1.5 cord I have left from this season I'll be ahead about 2 years. That gives me time to scrounge anything I can without worrying about not finding cheaper/ free hardwood finds. Plus I can burn softwood all weekend when I'm around to tend to the more needy fire so pine doesn't bother me. This year I got by with mostly pallet wood

Scrounging is an addiction. I find myself looking for downed trees in every yard, checking to see if that downed tree over yonder is in the yard of woodburner, looking for freebies on CL. I had my first big score of the year on January 21st; 6 cords of white oak for $100. The guy was clueless to burning and heated his McMansion with *yeech* GAS. He had no idear what he was sitting on.

Got another pine score today! I figure each load is probably just over half a cord so over 2 loads I'm already up over a cord with another load ready for Monday. This scrounging is really adding up. Also with the help of my brother (epic power stance on the truck ) we get it loaded up fast and back to the house where it'll sit til the snow melts
