I just finished cleaning the flues on my Garn. I turn the fan on to exhaust the ash from the first two flues but the two by the fan have always been messy as the fan is removed and I had no way to exhaust. I solved the problem by cutting tapered plugs out of Styrofoam to plug the flue and drilled a hole for the cleaning rod to pass through. I can now power clean the flue without the ash mess.

I looked in 2 of mine just this morning - After 2 1/2 months of wood, there's not enough soot, ash, etc. to bother with. Life is good.

Do you attach your cleaning brushes to a drill motor or something? Just caught the term power clean!

Yes, Just a 3/8" Makita drill. The Styrofoam plugs actually help reduce the "whipping" action of the cleaning rod.

Mike, I last cleaned in August. I noticed my flue temperature at the fan getting a little higher so I knew it was time to clean or lose efficiency. My first two flues produce very little the two by the fan were coated lightly with soot.
