I rec'd a call from the Harman factory yesterday. Very nice gentleman. He was responding to my note to them about the glass getting the upside down L pattern on the glass. He stated that it is normal and nothing can be done about it. In fact that is why the XXV unit has mirrored glass so as to hide the soot pattern on the glass when the unit is not burning.

Several folks on this forum advised me to live with it. This now confirms their answers. We have some very smart folks on this forum and I appreciate all your input.

Hey jim, thanks for letting us know what Harman said. Makes me feel at ease my brand new XXV-7 is normal. I called my dealer after one day of using the stove and talked to the tech.(who's been working there for 20+ yrs.) & explained to her the lazy leaning to the left #7(upsidedown L) on the window and she acted like she'd never heard of it before. -

I can live with it no problem now that I know it does'nt affect eficiency at all

mine does'nt really get very dark at all, just a light haze you can see thru no problem that wipes off with a paper towell dampened w/water
