I just got shorted on a wood delivery, I new it was short from all I have learned on here! It was supposed to be three cords and it came out to being about 1.75 cords! (never feel bad about sending them away)
Now I was not very bright in getting a receipt or the name of the company, but I have the whole thing in text.
Is it worth setting weights and measures on them?
I paid $500 for it stacked 65feet from where it was dumped!
Spoke to the guy he wants nothing to do with fixing the issue. Knock it to life or be a jerk about it?

Needed to vent.

Thank you

Not for nothing but 1.75 cord AND stacked for $500 seems reasonable. But if they stacked it, I would think they would now immediately. 3 cord stacked for $500 man you would have been raping them.

They said it was three cords! when they showed up I knew it was not possible, they left one kid to stack it! I had him wheel it to me and I stacked it!

That's what I was thinking BrotherBart! If he wants to be a jerk why not me also.

No difference whatsoever.

All cash deal, but we have a nice conversation by text! this guy was trying to take $600 from me! only because of reading this wed site i never got completely screwed! This place is a must read about everything fireplace related!
Now to get somebody to install a block off plate for me!

If he wants to be a jerk why not me also.

The good thing is you don't have to be a jerk or get your blood pressure worked up. Simply follow the process, give a call to weights and measures, document your communications with him, see where it leads you. You have nothing to lose! I'd settle for another full cord dumped, but in your presence so you can eyeball the quality of the wood before it is dumped.

If you agreed on 3 and you got 1.75, thats an issue.

What I dont understand is why you let him leave if you say you knew when he got there it wasnt three cords?

I was hoping I was wrong! he said he had other drops to do, felt like I was being a real dick to say keep it. I took a look at my empty wood & took a chance!
always stick with first instinct. He seems rather smug about beating me!

Take pictures And email him....

Tell him you gonna call weights and measures like My buddy BB said and the IRS for Cash deals and no receipt and short changing you....

Don't worry about calling the IRS. Weights and Measures will give the Jersey tax boys a heads up.

Sorry, I meant to scare them with the IRS.......:p

Sure ain't nothing that comes of any good when dealing with the Infernal Ripoff Service.

Three hardwood cords stacked for 500 is a tremendous deal. Sounds like bait and switch. If you have this guys address and phone # , and can prove the deal was 3 cord stacked for 500, I would call weights and measures or the attorney generals office. He must be doing this to everyone or your a little off.

Around here people seem to think a face cord (4x8x?width) is a full cord. I personally wouldn't go after with the government since it seems you paid an ok price for what you got, but our weights & measures doesn't require receipts & stuff here. This is why I don't buy wood or do much selling. Buyers are just as bad if you are selling. Especially if you are trying to be honest.

Cab you please post the information on the company/guy you dealt with. That way if I decide to use him in the future, I can have a heads up. Or more importantly....avoid dealing with him entirely!!

Thanks,

Dom

I had a similar experience the first (and only) time I bought wood. Paid for a full cord and got two-thirds of a cord, and no interest at all from the seller about making it right.

I called PA Wts and Measures, got a phone call back a few days later, from a guy who seemed uninterested in helping. Never heard another word about it.

I think the only way not to get cheated buying firewood is just to never buy it. Unless you know the seller personally.

I, for one, am shocked
==c:cool::)

call the weights and measure guys,,,can't hurt.

How about BBB? That is usually fun. I actually got results from that once.

Make a police report for theft of services and indicate in the report that you will follow up with contacting the NJ weights and measures, the BBB, and consumer affairs. Then send a copy of the report (redact you personal information) to the company and indicate that if you do not receive the balance of your wood, you will in fact move forward and contact the appropriate agencies.

This might be enough to get what you paid for without trying to get an attorney involved ( if you want to even go that far). The upside is you may get the refs of your wood.....the downside is that you may not be able to use him again for a wood source due to pissing him off.

Just some food for thought.
