I heard about this and gave it a try. Works great.
Just drill a hole in a golf ball that is slightly smaller than the file and pound on. They fit into the palm of your hand better than the plastic file handles.
Since I am a golfer and pick up about 2 five gallon pails a season, I should have a good supply.

Nice idea!

They also work well as a handle for gun cleaning rods. Been doing that since I was a kid.
 
Great idea, especially since I seem to be low on handles for some reason. I may try to find a colored golf ball for quick identification in the tool box (white is for 375" chain, yellow for .325").

Somehow, I also get the feeling that you also have used old corn cobs for handles! Why not, we used to use them all the time and they worked. Price was right too.

Brought back memories of going out to my grandparents tool shed to help feed the chickens and seeing the rows of old rusted hand tools hanging on the walls, all with either corn cob handles or old wood taped back together. Thanks for the memories!!

Clever idea, Firewood Bandit. It certainly is a much less frustrating use of golf balls than their intended purpose. :)
 
Nice idea. I'm going to try that as my wooden one comes off and gets my hand in trouble
