I have this wood pellet stove bought last year. All last winter, no issues - cleaned weekly. This year we bought pellets from same place and middle of this winter noticed we now have to clean biweekly if not more. Lots of burnt whole pellets in burn box, black glass, horrible smell after a few days from cleaning. We clean it two days a week now, not making too much difference - gets dirty fast. Door gasket is fine, rope gasket around glass diminished but still there. Tested for leakage by using paper in between door and stove - none, fits tight. We clean the catch piece at the u-joint of pipe (it comes off and we vacuum it and as much of pipe as we can). We were told it might be exhaust blower in need of cleaning. We removed the three side screws and located what we believe is exhaust blower and vacuumed that. It still seems to be burning hot with tall flame and aggressive blower noise.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help! Thank you!!

Did you have the vent pipe cleaned after last season? Might want to check the termination cap to ensure no build up or nest built. Sounds like the air is not flowing the way it use to. Are the joints sealed well on vent pipe still? Any error codes/shut downs? What settings are you running it on (IE heat range, draft fan?) The more info the better the suggestions.

no error codes. have been running it on 2, auto sets, joints were all sealed at last year's install. husband cleaned vent pipe after last season. a couple times we ran it on 1 or 3, but for the most part 2 . . .clean it VERY well when we clean . . . .use shop vacuum with all kinds of nozzles, use brush inside . . . we have burned 6 tons since we cleaned vent pipe

Try running the draft fan at 2 higher then the heat range you are running and see how that is. If it is still running with alot of soot.

After 6 ton it might be time to run a brush through the pipe again. Cleaning it every 3-4 Days can happen with certain pellet brands as well.

This wont resolve the burn issue but it will fix the dirty glass. If your air wash open? Many users on the forum report them being closed with gasket from the factory. Search for 5500m on the site i have some nice pictures.

Also i had a post addressing some draft issues.

Thanks to everyone! I was thinking it was pellet quality. The room draft was taken off auto and was on 9!!!! I turned it back to auto and we'll see. I'll give it a day or so, then if not better I'll clean vent again. We have been going through a lot of pellets - didn't realize room draft was at 9 - that could explain it, I guess.

You were all correct!!!! Thank you so much! We disassembled the venting system and cleaned it - wow, lots of soot in there! From now on, every 2 tons it will get cleaned! Keeping the drafts on auto for now.

ok, still producing a LOT of soot (light colored, not black) in 3 1/2 days . . . flame seems aggressive . . . do you think it's the pellet quality or should I adjust the drafts? right now everything is set to auto

Could be the pellets. You can adjust the draft and still leave it in auto.

Press draft down and aux together then set you draft with the draft down button. Mine is set to 210
Repeat for draft up mine is set to 420

Allow me to explain those adjustments some. The down arrow number (210 in skibladerj case) is the draft fan speed low setting. The up arrow number (420) is the high end draft fan setting. The max number is 500 (fan running at 100% output). The lowest is 0 (0%). While running on auto the board will adjust the draft fan to run equal to the heat range setting. So while skiblader is on heat range 1 and in auto his draft fan will run at 210 or 42% of max. output. The control board will avg the inbetween settings. So these adjustments control what the draft fan speed will be at the different settings. You can also run your draft fan at 1 or 2 over the heat range setting. This is used for temporary adjustments, or to try something different. The only thing automatic about the auto setting is the fans run equal to the heat range setting. Just thought I'd add this to make it easier to understand the adjustments you are making.
