25-30 cords for $2000. Not split. Good deal?

That's a lot of work! Do you have a wood processor? If you have $2000, a lot of time and it is solid firewood go for it.

Find out how much to hire someone with a log truck to haul it as that is about the only way to move it and then compare to the cost of a log load.

Log length or in rounds ? 2k/25=$80/cord + your fuel to go get. It's doable but heck of a work out if your doing the loading and unloading by hand. I did 30 over the course of the warmer months ( megga scrounge)
had to cut it all into rounds first also had to beat the tub grinder, picked up a truck and trailer load on the way home anytime weather or ground would permit. When I couldn't do that would split until dark, when split pile got to big, I would stack. It was all right by the river so the ground really never got dry enough to get the skid steer in. Bad enough with the truck.

Wow. I would be more motivated if I knew the kind of logs, at least the majority of them first. That's a lot of wood.
If you have the time and you like the looks of it go for it. Great price if you don't count your own labor

Why would you want that much wood in one shot, most people get shorted just buying a cord, how much do think you would get shorted when buying 30? Maybe 11 cords short?

I disagree. I work on computers and re-sell lots of ThinkPad laptops for a hobby. I don't budge at all on my prices.....in person or over the phone.

Yeah sometimes we need some reality check, BTW did you calculate how much space 25 cords of split wood takes up? It's a lot .

I bet there is a catch to it. Soft Maple and boxelder is hardwood too. I would tell him the next time he gets a load drop it off so ya don't have to load and unload the wood . Firewood is not worth anything. Not one cent. People pay to get rid of the stuff. ALL the cost is in the labor. Firewood is so labor intensive I could only pay a guy 8-10 bucks an hour for the labor just to come out even. Then I have to load it in the wood boiler outside 3 times a day walking through snow drifts in the wind @ -10 F. Honestly I have 5 yrs on my wood boiler. I need at least 1 more year just to break even, maybr 2 yrs. I could have saved the 10k , put it in the envelope for gas bills, cut the wood and sell it for 150 cord and put that money in the gas envelope. If I would have done this, the boiler will be junk before the money runs out. SO in other words, with a super insulated house, with Nat, gas, the boiler never pays for itself. Now, pay 2k for the wood to do twice the work cause he dumped it where it won't be burned. No deal , I'd pass.

I wouldn't do it. That's a lot of work for you to haul it home, and there's really no way to know if you're actually getting 30 cords.

I've burned 9 cords so far this year. My neighbor happened to be having his land cut off this year. I got ahold of the logger. He's going to cut me 20 or 30 cords of tree length off my land. 50 bucks a cord. Told him I'd measure at the end of the day and pay him cash. Win / win.

That's too much for me. Too much time, too much haulin', too much wood, too much money. I like the suggestion to negotiate with the seller to drop a load or more off next time one's available - that sounds a lot more practical to me.

Sounds about right. Maybe you can send out some saw logs and get it done for nothing? Have you tagged the trees he is to cut? Mark the stumps? (And watch the logger like a hawk so he doesn't poach any saw logs.)

2 problems

1) 25-30 cord? In other words he has no idea how much wood is there. 30 cord for $2000 is $66 per cord. If you don't cut your own that's a pretty good deal. 25 cord would be $80 per cord. If it turns out to be 20 now you're into it for $100 per cord.

2) I prefer not to deal with bucked logs simply because they are cut too long. Or too short. Or both. If you buy firewood you're used to this so it's not an issue.

you can disagree all you want. I'm sure you don't budge and good for you... I have bought & sold $$$ on craigs list. People come to expect a little wiggle room on craigs list.

I actually called him @ 8;50 AM my time....I asked how much he would accept if I came with 100 dollar bills...He asked how I was going to pick it up. I said I had a friend with a logging truck....he said "rilly....$1500.00!! I said I would call him right back when I arranged for the truck...His name is Ron. so if your interested in the wood call him and tell him you just called and its yours for 1500.00 ... Our conversation was very short and I didn't even START to work him over. If I wanted that wood, I would go over there with $1500...BUT I would make sure I didn't wave it in front of his face. I would have it spread out in my pockets and you can bet the last $20 will be ones. All the time I would be working him. Based on my conversation this morning I'll bet it would be mine for $1352.00. The last $2.00 would be my "lucky 2 dollar bill" that I tell him some silly story about.... I crack up when people pay me full price ROTFLMAO.....also, when they come over to look, NEVER discuss money. Only talk about what your selling...When it comes to the $$ part..."the next person who speaks...looses"

We pay about 900 buck for a truck load that's > 8 cords (24 face cords). That's delivered in 8ft log lengths to my door. If you could get it and it was good quality for say 1500 bucks, might be a good deal if you have a buddy with a logging truck. If you're hauling it some other way or have to pay for a logging truck, I'd prolly pass.

You guys have missed that dealing with rounds you need a dump truck or 40 yd roll off bin and a front end loader and this would be loaded in no time. A logging truck would be there for days and how do you transport rounds in a bunk trailer?

I would need to see the wood first. Who knows what it is and 25-30 cords is quite a difference. What if it is only 10 'real' full cords. For all we know it may be on a clearing site with the vultures picking away at it.

This wheeling and dealing stuff gets the blood pumping. But personally Ive decided to stay on the porch and just watch the big dogs.
Labor intensive yes, very much. Doesnt seem practical, probably not. but I have resorted to cutting wood off my own lot. My BIL helps me with the big stuff.
All labor, no expense. No financial loss on bad deals or deceptive sales.
No more wood dealers, they know exactly how much wood they are pushing.
