Well if it makes you feel any better our lakes and ponds are opening up here and I saw a whole batch of ducks together out on one yesterday. Swans in another. So they survived our winter here. I'm sure there are plenty of critters who did not but the ones I saw did.. I have not seen our oldest male cardinal at the feeder in some time now, though Mrs is still there and the young pair that mated in the front yard two springs ago were out there the other day. The doves are showing up, even the dumb chipmunk is out. So spring is coming here.

There now is no snow in my yard after yesterdays 50 deg day.

While cooking on the grill last night saw a huge flock of geese heading east, probably 50+, been going thru suet like crazy, cool watching red headed woodpecker's, this is my first year feeding birds as my wife is deathly afraid of any bird's....tried to get her to watch the movie ....haha
We had a Cardinal that came around all last summer, haven't seen him since fall, Wife also believes the Cardinal is her reincarnated Father who passed away a few years ago.......

To much in that posting if you break it down psychologically. Best left to rest.

Birds are just really interesting to watch. We have quite a collection of them in our yard, lot's of types of birds. However, I don't know where your wife's Dad went but I seriously doubt he is in that bird. Spiritually she may be sent signs though and she may correlate those with her Dad. If the Cardinal pleases her and reminds her of her father, then tell her for me that's a good thing and to rest rest well with the sight of the bird. Regardless, our Cardinal has disappeared before only to return eventually but he is getting old. This winter may have done him in, we shall see.

Geese are amazing creatures, except for crapping all over anything green ! We were traveling in southern Canada one spring. There was a huge flock of geese flying North, I mean like hundreds of them. Then up from below the tree line to the East another whole flock flew up forming their own V formation . That second flock joined the first flock as a second wing V of birds all headed North. It's just intuitive, it's what they do. In the fall I've seen the summer brew leave with the parents in the same way. A flock is flying over and off they went to join them. Makes you feel like yelling out, " see you next year" or " nice knowing ya" ( lot's of shotguns between where they left and where they were going where ever that might be). Some people don't enjoy the wild life enough, they don't take the time can't be bothered but there is certain tranquility in it for sure. My wife and I can just sit in a canoe and watch it all happen, sit in a back cove way out remote someplace and listen. The peace the quiet out there and then the snort of a Bull Moose echoes through the woods, a loon quills. Amazing. I stopped hunting animals after my Dad passed ( no I'm not an environmentalist nut, everyone else can do as they please). I watched my Dads eyes glaze over on Thanksgiving day 1998 and I don't care to cause that to happen to a living thing. I can buy my meat. I would hunt if I had to to survive only and it would be with a prayer then, " I'm taking this animal because .......".. It's just how is for me now. Wasn't always but it is now.

What this all has to do with pellet stoves I haven't the slightest idea !

But Cardinals are cool looking birds !!

birds here are also coming back, still waiting for our regular cardinal resident to show up, he is normally due here in within a week or two ..the cat yeehaw has been real happy to get the birds back, now has something to do outside lol , when the birds come back spring is right around the corner, it really amazes me how the outside wild life, (small stuff, birds, squirrels, rabbits, and stuff) can really survive these harsh conditions, It makes me appreciate them a lot more.

I had a male cardinal outside my home office window for 5 years sitting on the ledge pecking at the window seeing his reflection and thinking it was a male rival. I will give him 10 for persistence every year. Stupid and faithful to fend off other males. I always wondered the amount of time he spent on that ledge bobbing and weaving with his equal counterpart. He even flew flat into the window a few times determined to finally catch him. It became a daily ritual, one of which kept me amused. One day he finally cracked his beek but that still didn't stop him. I finally put up a piece of white cardboard so he would go away and not see himself. Never saw him again after that. Moved on to some real competition I guess. He was motivation as to not ever give up no matter how difficult the task may be. :)

Average Cardinal life span as I recall is about 10 years fwiw.
Our cats are house cats, they don't go out. We lost two or three to the road, a couple more to coyotes. The wife deemed them house cats for more than ten years now, maybe 20 years..

The morning after my cousin passed away (he had many pet birds),.. a male cardinal tapped my bedroom window every morning at 5am,... that went on every morning for over a week! _g

Those kinds of experiences makes you wonder sometime don't though? Nature and man is more connected than know me thinks!
