New engine on husky splitter?

For the second spring in a row I have my log splitter in the shop for damage to the engine that appears to be caused by stress from the vibrations of the engine. Friday I was splitting some kindling and the carb and air cleaner fell off the engine. The bracket that holds it onto the engine broke.

Ultimately I'm interested in putting a Honda gxv160 or gcv160 onto this splitter. Has anyone done this? Any advice or tips?

Anyone have any opinion about the Honda gx versus the gc? Is it worth the extra money? 200$ vs 400$!
 
No opinion on those two but I replaced the five horse Briggs on my 1988 20 ton Duerr splitter six years ago with a 99 dollar 6.5hp Honda clone from Harbor Freight and have run the crap out of it. No problems.

I had to replace the motor on my Huskee 22.....cost of $500 for a replacement motor & labor....something about the Shaft...Briggs and Stratton makes the only motor that will fit the Huskee
 
Make sure that the motor you get has the appropriate shaft length to match up to the pump mount. They are not all created equal.
 
I had a repair shop order me a Honda. Hopefully it will mount up. They said it would so I guess it's on them
 
I had to put longer bolts in the pump mount on mine because the new engine's shaft was longer. No biggie.

I replaced mine with the same engine from HF that BB got. 6.5hp for $99 when on sale. I bought 3 of them last time they were on sale. Good go-kart engines too for the kids. The new predators are black. The old HF engines were blue. The blue worked great too!
 
It's an inner conflict between Chinese stolen and copied technology and paying too much for the real thing. I went for the real thing hoping it lasts me forever. I will give an update as soon as I get it back and let you know my impressions

Honda has been making engines in China since 1994. >> Jialing-Honda is a fifty-fifty partnership with Honda and China Jialing Industrial Co., Ltd. China Jialing is owned by the Chinese government. Does anybody actually believe the Chinese government would be letting anybody steal from them?
 
We got the Honda on the splitter. We bought a gx 160 with a vertical shift. The only problem was that the engines don't have controls on the engine. We had to retrofit a push mower style throttle and choke works good though and boy does that engine purr
