Hey folks: My old orginal ( 8 years ) convection fan finally went. It started making a lot of noise for about a couple of weeks and finally went. I got a new one, from the store I bought the stove from, same 1.6 amp power. Installed it. Works very quietly. My question is, is it really working? It doesn't seem to blow out has much heat. When I go through the 5 settings, you can hear it go up and down, but doesn't seem to be blowing much heat. Today is fairly nice outside by still need the setting on 4 to feel good. Am I just used to a noisy fan or could there be something wrong here? Has anyone else replaced their fan and had any trouble? Thanks

Try tapping the fan button on the control board once then again and see if the blower speed doesnt kick up. Sometimes I've had to do this after I've unplugged my stove and it works.

The amps mean nothing,they may have sold you the wrong speed motor.Or your heat exchanger is dirty.Sounds like you noticed it right away,prob. wrong unit.
How can I tell what speed the motor should be? I still have the old one and I don't recall seeing any numbers corresponding to motor speed.

The same thing happened to me after installing a new blower several years ago
and it still happens every once in a while particularly if I unplug the stove.
Did you tap the fan button on the control board? If not, shut down the stove then
once it's shut down unplug it. Leave it unplugged for about 20 seconds, plug it
back it and start it up. Once it's running put it on #2. Then press fan button.
If nothing happens press it again.

Thanks folks. I'm sorry i don't get back quicker, but busy at these times. The next time I shut it done, I will try that with the fan. I bought the stove new in sept of 2006. It say it is a st. Croix model prescott exp.

I just looked. I don't have a fan button. I only have heat level ( 5 settings ) feed trim draft trim' auger, and on/off buttons

I just called the store and he said bring it back swap it out and try another one i hope that works. Probably do that on Saturday . When I increase the heat level speed it seems like it dont respond. Shouldn't the fan increase when you up the heat level?

My fan blower increases speed/force when going from 1-2.
2-5 the blower seems to be the same, only difference is
it feeds more pellets.

Must have the newer board,no control.On high heat fan should be running as fast as it can.You could unhook fan(while running on high)and hook 120 volts direct to fan and see if runs faster.Or/and,when you pull out new one,hook both to 120,sitting on floor(workbench)and see if both blow the same.

On my stove, the fan speeds increase with the heat level (1-5), but there is a 2 minute 15 second delay between each one. I assume that's to allow the fire to adjust to each feed rate. Yes, I've timed them…
On my stove, the POF switch is on the combustion blower housing. It's only 5 volts DC, so not dangerous (YMMV). I used to use a jumper with clip leads until I connected a small switch in parallel with the POF sensor. That allows me to run the fans while I clean the cold stove so they suck the ash out of the house.
I doubt that your problem is the POF switch. If it were bad, the room blower would never come on. If it were stuck on, the room blower would never shut off.
You're losing heat somewhere; on level 5, my stove puts out 450º air. Level 3 is about 300º air. And that's with mediocre pellets.

In other words at number 1 heat setting the voltage to the convection fan would be approx 80 Volts, 2 would be 90 and so on with number 5 being line voltage (120 volts)
This can be fairly easily checked with any $10 multi meter, It has a delay between settings a couple of minutes after you change heat settings. With a new motor it would be hard to hear the difference in the speeds.

I timed the settings and yes you were right. 1-2 you hear it increase.2-3 it 2 minutes for fan to increase. 3-4 it took 1 1/2 min. 4-5 it took 2 min. So I blelieve the fan is working properly and yes all the numbers match the orginial fan that I took out. It must be that it is just quieter.

Be sure to call and thank dealer as he was willing to help,not all of them do.
Yes I went to the dealer and he is very good with us. He did swap the fan motor with a new one and yes this one is even quiter. Thank you everyone for helping me with this. I love this forum.
