whitfield auger motor wont stop spinning

Greetings all. I have a whitfield profile 30 freestanding unit. My old auger motor has been acting up all season, so I ordered a new one that is supposed to be compatible with my stove. I installed it upon its arrival last night, and it seemed to work just fine. after a while, I noticed that the stove was burning as though it was on high setting, trouble is, I had it on low. when I looked at the auger motor, the shaft inside the motor keeps on spinning after the a/c current has stopped. It acts like a flywheel. just as it starts to come to a standstill, the currant pulses again and it starts spinning again. Because of this, the auger never truly comes to a stop. My old motor stopped spinning as soon as there was no current going to it, it just wouldn't run on low for some reason. Not sure what might be causing this, besides just a bad replacement motor. thanks for any help I might receive.

I ordered the new one from wood heat stoves and solar, inc and the motor came from their supplier pelletstoveparts.com. Their website stated this was a Whitfield aftermarket auger motor, model 12-1010-epp, and is a direct replacement for the 12046300 original motor, and is considered superior to the factory original.

I ran a bench test with the motor, wire leads with a plug on them. when I plug it in the motor spins free, but when I unplug it the motor winds down for about 2.5 seconds. When I did this on the motor I was replacing, as soon as I unplugged the leads, the motor stopped spinning.

I will hook a multimeter up to the motor leads tomorrow and see what kind of voltage is getting supplied to it then.
