what kind of vac do you use to clean your pellet stove?

An old Dirt Devil upright vac, works for me.

The powersmith blows our old country hearth vac all to heck.

The power this thing has is amazing. Our old one barely had enough suction. our old one always had ash blowing through the filter and back into the room.

I really like the huge cloth like filter on the powersmith.

just a side note, we have sucked up burning pellets with the dyson in an emergency, but emptied it right away.

Hmmnnn, I need an extra vacuum anyway so now you guys got me thinking about getting one of these ash vacs.

Looks like it's either the Powersmith or the Cougar. Does anyone have a comparison of these two as in like which has more power, etc...

The Powersmith boasts a "powerful 10 amp motor" - what's that equate out to in horsepower is what I'm wondering. How will it compare to my old Craftsman shop vac that is 9 amp.60Hz & 5 peak HP?

The Cougar people don't reveal anything at all about their motor on their website, something the consumer does'nt need to know I guess. I looked under the "specs" heading and all it showed was the paint color options and a few other things that were nonrelevant - kinda like buying a car and they won't tell you what's under the hood till you buy it.

Probably the Powersmith for me, does anyone know if these have enough HP to double as a shop vac?

746 watts = 1HP

use ohms law to figure out power (watts).....

an EXAMPLE ;
10A*110V=1100W
1100W / 746W = 1.47HP

there is ALLOT of factors that affect these specs, namely draw based on load.

No need for 100 HP to sweep up dust MOLECULES !!
Shop-vacs are more powerful for debris and water.

and FWIW don't count on quoted specs (on the side of a shop-vac) ESPECIALLY if they call it MAX...........

I'd like to use it for more than just sucking ash which is why I'm inquiring as to the power these ash vacs have, would like it to be able to pick up sawdust, spiders and very small debri(no water) around the shop

my shop vac has some darn good suction, really good when filter is clean. It is 9 amp at 120V so the powersmith ash vac seems to be right about even powerwise with my shop vac, cool - thanks again for the elec. info

sounds interesting, please pardon my naivety but what exactly is a bag filter? I did'nt notice any on the shelve at Sears last month when I replaced my stock filter.

Yes those are the ones and when used in combination with the blue filter it works out good.
