Has anybody changed the engine on a Husky 22 ton? If so, did you use the same Briggs or something different?
Thanks

Ow old is your Huskee 22.....

I think about 6 yrs. It's a matter of getting another engine or spending about the same amount fixing the one I have. Vibration issues, new carb, mouse nest(eaten wires). About 450 for new one installed

ha! I was just on the other thread Jags mentioned. HF and $100 buys you a 6.5hp side shaft(on sale). Takes about 20 minutes to bolt it on.

That may work on some splitters but I don't think the shaft on that motor will work on the Husky splitter

Are you referring to the horizontal/vertical orientation of the shaft? If so, they sell a vertical shaft version as well.

The HF vertical is 5.5HP. I like the horizontal shafts better if the pump and hoses can be moved and fit.

I believe the shaft dia and length are different.

Diameter is no prob. It just takes replacing that half of the lovjoy with the appropriate size (found at all tractor supply joints). Length could be an issue depending on the pump mount. As Brotherbart found, he just had to replace the bolts with longer ones. It is also possible to shorten the shaft.

what motor/shaft do you have?

I just replaced my Briggs with a Honda gxv160. You can order them with the correct length and diameter shift. The only problem with the vertical shift engines is that they don't have choke and throttle controls incorporated into the motor. They require a cable to a separate control. I'll post a picture of what I did tomorrow. Or you could get a horizontal shift and just move your pump.

So far I am in love with the new Honda. Old Briggs kept vibrating itself apart and the new Honda seems much quieter
