Between these two, which one would you pick?

Personally, neither. I'd go to a good stove dealer and get yourself a quality stove like a St Croix or a Harman. You'll spend a bit more for it but it will be well worth it.

Ditto! But there are other manufacturers that I would consider as well!

For those prices, I would look at the Quadrafires. I got my CB1200 for a little bit more than the U.S. Stove and it is a really good unit. Also check Quadrafire's website, they usually have a $300.00 coupon.

If you definately want a do it yourself stove I would say the summers heat for their great customer service,but i would buy a refurbed timber ridge from am/fm energy.If your not against buying from a dealer I would look for a local heatilator dealer

You've shown us the price range you want so, like others have said, Quadrafire Sante Fe or Classic Bay would fill the bill. There's a lot of support here for them. But don't ignore the great on-line and on-phone service after the sale you get with Englander/Summer Heat/Timber Ridge stoves. http://www.amfmenergy.com/ has great deals on new and refurbished stoves and many here will vouch for their integrity from what I've read over the years. Free shipping too. And the refurbs have full factory warranty and save you a LOT. If I had the floor space, I'd have one in my house.
You don't need to spend a fortune just to say you have a good stove. They all have their faults and good points. What matters most is support and YOUR ability/willingness to maintain them. None of them are set and forget appliances.

I own a version of the bottom one. I like it. Picked it up on clearance from Lowe's for $900. Heats about 70% of my 3,000 sq/ft .: 2,100 sq/ft. Roughly what they quote you. I only run it on 2-3 and my house stays at 20C, however I also have about R40 walls

Wow, they do have some good deals. The Timber Ridge version of the Summers heat linked above for only $1200 shipped. That's a lot of stove for the money.

Out of those two I'd go for the Summers Heat.

I looked at a VF55 by Enviro for my basement. $2100. 55,000 btu, big ash pan, pot stirrer. I've never seen one burning, but read some good reviews. More good than bad.

I had the same debate with myself a while back when we were looking at stoves, in the end I bought a USED Breckwell and i'm glad I went with a used decent quality stove vs a cheaper new stove.

I would check Craigslist, I just bought 2 stoves a week ago to resale for profit next year they are dirt cheap right now....... One was a brand new left over from 2012.

That being said to ACTUALLY answer your question.....
I would go with the US Stove Company model, it seems USSC has a huge footprint in the pellet stove world and owns other brands, therefore it would seem there is more support available for there stoves (parts, knowledge from other owners etc etc).
If your stuck on the Lowes stove it will be on clearance soon, ours are locally $1300 and probably falling !!

This is the stove I installed on 2/2 and it has been great for me so far.

Search the treads here - a good way to learn the pros and cons of each stove. I think there is a US stove tech that is a member now (Owen1508) and Englander's man (stoveguy2esw - the guy who refurbishes those stoves for amfmenergy) has been a long time member.

I'm confused. If you've owned both why don't you just pick the one that worked best for you, your environment and your needs?

If it were me, I would shop craigs list or ??? and find a good clean used Whitfield Advantage 2 or 3 or one of the other large Whits that were made in the late 90's

Give it a good going over, clean and check it out, then stuff it in.

These can be had very reasonable and they are nearly impossible to kill.

Repair parts are readily available and at reasonable prices.

We have two whits that we bought used, and with all the trappings, a raised hearth for one and just new pipe for the other, we have less than $1000 tied up in the pair.

You can't buy a low budget POS for that money.

I am a tight A$$ and always look for the best bang for the buck $$$$$$$$$$

I have the same stove, and I'm pretty happy with it. Mine is an '09 model, and I bought it used in 2011. Still on the same ignitor, but I've replaced the combustion blower, auger motor, and burn pot. The stirrer will be due next year. It's done a pretty decent job heating 2400 sq ft. It loses the battle if it's below 0 or nasty windchills, but it's great the rest of the time.

I've only burned corn once, and didn't enjoy the process. I burned straight corn, but have been told that a 50/50 mix works nicely. Higher quality pellets (somersets) burned hotter and cleaner than corn for me, but it's nice knowing that it can be done.
