my TL300 is similar. Yes, the last of the pull pushes the bar "under tension" to hold it closed. Push it till it stops.

For sure I would not want that bypass to open while i was not home! There is a bolt to adjust how tight it locks up on mine too. Yours may be the same. Mine can be seen looking thru the firebox at the dampner door.

Yup, I actually had the same problem with that adjustment several times a few years ago. The damper fell open on its own. quite some time after I had shut it, just out of the blue. First thing I thought was, boy, it would be nice to have a design where gravity worked to help it close by itself rather than open it up!

I did adjust it the tightness, and have never had the problem since. I think it is called the the damper ramp adjustment screw, and is mentioned in the owners manual as to how to adjust. When I was messing around with mine to get it just right, I noticed the entire damper frame assembly was loose, as a few of the bolts holding it seemed to have loosened somehow from the repeated opening and closing of the damper. That may have contributed to the problem, so check that everything feels tight while you're in there.
