My single wall was bought in 1986 and it's fine...just saying.

Very possible, mine is less than 6 months old and is already rusty on the outside. There are also different levels of quality with single wall. If I could do it again I would get the thicker welded stuff vs. the snap-lok from a hardware store.

Yes, I used to buy the cheap, snap-lock pipe, and I also used to have to replace it every couple years. Eventually, I switched to Selkirk double-walled pipe.
