I did something stupid last week. I wanted to top off my hopper before leaving on a very cold day by adding a half bag of pellets. I rested half of the pellet bag on top of the stove and let the open half of the bag empty into the hopper. Just a few seconds, but was quite surprised when lifting the bag up, I had a big mess when a gaping hole was produced in the pellet bag by the hot stove surface melting it. Pellets were spilled out everywhere. I had done this before without incident, but the stove had been on a slow maintenance burn and wasn't hot enough to cause any problem. This time it was too hot. Now I have some small unsightly patches of melted plastic residue which I would like to get rid of. Short of sanding and using touch up paint, what can I use to clean this up?

Been there, done that more than once.I just let it there for a while, appears repeated heating and cooling changes the plastic, let it there until can flake off with fingernails.Does stink for a few times though.

I think your the first one to ever do this. Just kidding
Let the stove cool and it should pick off with no harm. I have done this more than once.
I have one small area where I did it when it was hot and it smudged into the paint finish and it is still there.

When the stove starts to cool you can try and take some heavy canvas or burlap and rub out the plastic letting it soak into burlap and use some pellet dust to try and get the remnants off.

That is why I cringe when the mr fills the hopper from the bag instead of pouring it into the can first
