So NH
Found a great deal on a 4 yr old new generator that has never seen gas. When picking it up I got to talking to the guy. He moved to NH in june from NC and is now moving back to NC. He said the winters here suck can't stand it, he is leaving May 1st. I know it's been a long winter but wow. I was a little insulted that he said quality of life was so much better in NC as a lifetime New hampshirite, But I totally understand.

When you have grown up in the cold north, you know what to expect. Coming from NC, where the winters are mild, it could be tough to adjust. This winter has been colder and longer than most. Its 3F outside now for March 23, i agree that winter needs to be over.

3F out? That has to be from the banks thermometer!

Those always seem to be wrong, I have 3 different avenues for weather. weather bug, accu weather, and channel 9. The only thing consistent with them is that they are all different from the thermometer at the house and each other. Sometimes by 15*

Yep, I spent my first thirty years in WI so I know better than to move north. !!!

Rode to the grocery store yesterday evening to pick up a pizza dough, pineapple and cheesy puffs ... on the sled ... bet you can't do that in North Carolina in late March. :)

I'd hazard a bet that he doesn't have a sled, doesn't snowshoe, ski (X country or alpine)/board, or ice fish. Winter is long and dreary if you don't have an outdoor interest that involves snow and cold. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm ready to see the end of it, too. (heard the first Red Wing Blackbird the other day!)

We plan to buy a Winter place in the Carolinas in 8 years or so......for some reason, my Wife is hot on that area (Myrtle Beach, Greer, Greenville or Ashville)......I wouldn't mind Georgia, or even Florida, but in 8 years I'm done with these winters

For me NC is not far enough South. Naples, FL is where I want to be when I retire if it is not underwater. This is only for the winters, not sure were we would spend the summers.

When my wife and I visited VT/NH/ME last summer I said that I would love to retire in VT. However, I also told her we would have to spend a winter there before we made the move. We've had our share of cold this winter but I know it pales in comparison to what you guys have had. I also grew up in the snow belt outside of Cleveland but common sense says before you move somewhere learn what every season brings. I don't want anything to do with NC/SC/GA summers either!

You can't do that here in NC in the dead of winter. In fact, you would be hard pressed just to find a sled...much less the snow to use it on. ;)

My buddy's daughter is going to college at Wesleyan in Rocky Mount.....they had 4 inches of snow and closed school for 4 days.....she was laughin' her butt off....you know, being from Connecticut, 4 inches is like a dusting

That's nothing, in our school district, they closed or opened late 5 days due to......wait for it..........wait for it..........cold temperatures.
Reason given: "Not all students waiting at bus stops, have coats for the sub 20 degree weather".

Sad.

grew up on Long Island, New York, now reside in Ohio, relocating to St. Croix in the next 2 years. I have had enough of winter, miss the water might as well go back to the water where it is warm. 77-87 year round. todays forecast low of 74 high of 77. 1/2 acre beach front, I will send pictures during the winter to help keep your spirits up.;)

I think I could paint a pretty accurate personality and financial profile for this guy, but it's not pretty. Anyone who moves their entire existence north and then back south by a thousand plus miles so impulsively has probably not been without trouble in most other aspects of life.

Cheesy puffs were on the side . . . actual pizza was thick slab bacon and pine apple.

agreed I know a guy who moved here from Cali. and only stayed one winter also. Had some construction dealings with him and you are correct as to his profile.

Went back to his place and bought a riding lawnmower, edger, and a nice basketball hoop. He lives in a brand new huge house with all new toys/tools. He and his family like skiing, but a family of 5 costs around 2-300 a trip. he is a suit and tie kind of guy. I think money is not short for him. But as long as the deals keep coming I don't care.:)
