I decided to join the ranks and buy a Harman P43. But this dealer has been very difficult. I probably should have seen the warning signs earlier, but now it's time to make a decision. How would you deal with this?

Dealer and I agreed on a price, then when processing the payment he added what I assumed was sales tax. The reciept doesn't specify what the added amount is for. It is slightly higher than the state 6% sales tax by approx $50. I didn't notice this until I got home and realized the numbers were slightly off. I called and brought it to their attention, but got run around. I think "OK, I'll talk to the guy face to face when he comes to install."

Two days later... I take the day off from work so they can come install my new stove. They are supposed to come in the afternoon. No specified time. That's ok. I took the day off. Anytime is good. I get a call at 1pm saying they can't do the install today. They dont' have the wall passthrough. Woman was very apologetic, but we'll have to wait until it comes in. I calmly explain that I'm not pleased with having to take the day off from work and finding out late in the day that it was for nothing. "Can you plan to do a Saturday install?" Again, I get very indefinite answers. "I'll have to talk to xxxxx and get back to you. I'll call as soon as I hear about the part."

Two weeks later... I still haven't gotten a phone call. I don't even have an approximate date when I'll get the stove I've already paid for. I paid for the stove on my credit card, so in the end I can always dispute the charge if necessary. Really, I just want to pay a fair price and get my stove installed. But now I'm also worried about what's going to happen with this dealer when I need warranty service or any other issues. I also feel like this dealer should make some kind of concession to make up for the hassle they have caused. I've searched the board and other people seem very happy with this place. My experience has been pretty awful.

What's the reasonable way to handle this when I call today?

Personally, I don't take baloney from anyplace I spend my money, especially when plunking down thousands. If I were you, I'd politely cancel the order and ask for a refund then go find a dealer worthy of your time and money,

Sometimes things start out on the wrong foot so to speak. It more than likely won't get any better as time goes by.
So it looks like it's time to look around I'm sure there is a dealer that would like to work with you.

I hate when companies think they are doing me a favor by ALLOWING me to purchase from them. Give your head a shake.

Hello

I would pick up the stove and bring it home. Then get a qualified independent pellet stove installer to install it. Problem resolved!

Had issues with my first dealer as well. It was one thing after another. Went to another dealer and was treated well. Better price to boot.

Cancel and move on. If you liked your quote, use it in bargaining with the next dealer. If on credit card, contact credit card co and cancel. check out their Better Business Bureau rating if your still not convinced...

It's nice that you've got a second chance to trust your intuition. I'd get while the gettin's good! :)

Cut your losses ASAP. You will never develop a decent relationship with him. And he likely will not be in business much longer.

I agree, not a good idea as you will struggle to find a Harman dealer to do warranty work on your stove when you didn't buy it there. Plus, why give the guy your business? He doesn't deserve it.

Yes, that is true.

On the other hand, I just worked on a 13 year old P61 that just needed new parts for the very first time! The combustion blower was squeeling so we put in the 1.75 amp upgrade. Then to make it easier to use, an auto ignition upgrade!

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck chances are it's a duck. Just my opinion.

Kaboom - welcome to the forum! Really unfortunate that your introduction to pellet stoves has been so difficult. Let us know how you make out and pics when you get your install done:)

Call the owner directly, tell him you are canceling your order, he will tell you it will be installed tomorrow morning.......if not, hang up and find another dealer...

You can go two ways ... Call and demand to speak to the owner immediately. If you don't get him, advise them you will be cancelling the credit card charge. See what happens...

Or just cancel the credit card charge and advised them. Start over.

Good luck...

I think I would just start over. Be glad you found out now..

I'm hoping you ran like heck back to that dealer, canceled the sale, and started over in your search! Even if he says he will take care of you immediately, please tell him you want your money back because he will NOT BE THERE the next time you need him.
