Feeling the Heat

I am having my buddy come over today and drop this black walnut for me. (Tree to the left of driveway looking at picture) Wife is tired of the walnuts littering our driveway and yard. Any guess on how much firewood this tree will produce? (Cutting for firewood, it is not straight enough to sell to a lumber mill)

My guess, about 84 cubic feet. Or .6525 of a cord.

I was given a bunch of walnut last summer. It seasons quickly and makes good heat, but the downside is it makes a lot of ash. Smells great though. I really like to burn walnut. If you cut it soon it will be ready for next winter.

Yeah, about 2/3-3/4 cord. I hate to cut live trees though. Tell her to cut it down herself, if she doesn't like it. ==c

Yes I was going to say about 3/4 cord myself. I burned some walnut recently, it is good shoulder season wood but not what you want for the middle of winter. As mentioned, it does season fairly quickly.

That's a nice tree, hate to see it taken down. Tough to judge the size - mabe 1 cord. See you Saturday, red oak.
