Like most everyone here at the forum I burned more wood than normal this winter. I've gone through over four cords of wood so far, so to keep a three years supply under cover I needed to expand my covered storage space. I added another eight foot bay and then re-roofed the main storage shed so that I could add another row of wood along its entire 32 feet length. This lets me stack three rows now instead of two. I have two other smaller storage spots that are filled up now, as well. Here are some photos:
This is my main storage area. There are four bays here - each is eight feet wide and about seven feet tall and they hold three rows deep.
Set back from this area on the far right is a carport where I park my garden tractor and other yard equipment. I stack wood under the roof to form a wall for the carport. Currently there are two rows that are eleven feet long and eight feet tall stacked under it.
This is a closer view of those stacks. That mess to the left is my wife's gardening work area, which she hasn't gotten ship shape yet for the season.
And finally, here are two more rows stored behind a retainer wall in the back yard. All together I can store about 12 cords under cover. I just finished working up some oak to fill all the spots. To replenish what I burned this year and to fill my expansion I've processed about eight cords of wood over the past two months. I have another cord or so of oak left to finish up from the last tree I've been working on. I'll stack that inside the carport making a third row. I hope to be finished for the year next week if the weather cooperates. It's a good feeling to have this finished off before it starts getting hot here in western NC.
