Well as spring sets in and the snow is finally all gone I figured I would put a pic up of my first year scrounging.
This past year we stayed warm, had ups and downs being we are new to heating with wood. Buying wood is what it is, we had half seasoned soft wood that burned quick and was a pain to get started yet we were warmer this winter than ever!
So this next winter will be awesome. Majority of the wood will be seasoned for a year only, the three year plan will be achieved eventually but it's hard work! So here it is. This pic is two rows deep in the wind and in the sun. Osage, oak, ash, maple, walnut, and maybe a few others Will continue to gather when I can so that I can get working on a few more years of heat!

I'm thinking that will be enough for next year. This year we were clueless. Constant feeding of wood. Mostly softer woods so with the new stash of hard woods and a better idea on loading stove I think we will be fine. I do plan on top covering
 
Sully it's good to have help! I think you'll definitely notice a difference with seasoned hardwood vs. softwood. As for getting three years ahead, be patient. It takes awhile to get there, or it did for me at least. You've gotta do things other than cut wood! Right???

That's going to be for next year , hopefully the winter won't be as harsh and with it all mostly being hardwoods the plan is to work it left to right. Hopefully I don't use all and I can be adding to it all year to start getting a head. We were burning our good stuff in shoulder season this past year, lack of knowing any better. I also have a stack of poplar for shoulder season this coming winter. I burnt a lot this winter but it was soft woods and it was all experimenting big learning curve on the first year!
