Choosing a pellet

Hello,
I need some advice. I have owned a Harman P68 for 5 years, burning only Barefoot pellets. This year, my pellet supplier will no longer be carrying Barefoot pellets because of the difficulty in acquiring them. I live on Cape Cod and must get my pellets delivered, I usually buy in April to take advantage of the early buy program. Because I live on Cape(I am not complaining) that severely narrows the companies that deliver here. The other pellet choices are: Ambiance, Logic E, La Crete and maybe Okanagan. ( same problems as Barefoot). I know the best way to tell what burns best in your stove is to burn 5or 6 bags, but that is not an option. The supplier hasn't supplied prices yet except for the Maine Choice($200) and Logic E (1.1 for 317). I wonder what pellet will burn best in my stove, with most heat, little ash?

The higher BTU lower ash pellets are usually more expensive.

Okanagan Platinums are quite good but they usually run around $300 per ton
Douglas Firs are the highest BTU, lowest ash pellet I've seen but they are up around $350 per ton

my understanding is that Logic E are just as good as the Barefoot.i have never burned them myself but according to South Shore Wood Pellet in Hollbrook they burn slightly hootter and just as clean as the Barefoot.Home Depot and Lowes seem to have upped their game around here in the past 2 years.ive seen somersets,lignetics,presto logs,blazers stove chow,fireside ultras and a few other real good pellets there and they both deliver as many tons as the truck will hold for a flat rate of $65.Usually $219 a ton at either store

As far as Home Depot goes,
they sell crap and good both...
don't think they know the difference since all prices are the same..
that said, Stove Chows are the best buy for your buck at the Box stores..
Okanagan's if you can get them is a great choice..
Never read a bad review ever about them..
 
LaCretes are very clean burning and great heat.

If you are nervous about stocking up entirely on a brand you've never used before, which is quite understandable, then go with a ton or two each of a couple different brands. At least that way if you end up with some pellets you are not happy with, it's not your entire winter supply. With the exception of Maines Choice all the other brands you mentioned generally sell for the same price around here - $290 give or take $10 or so. If it's the same situation where you are, the Canada softwoods are probably the best investment for high heat / low ash output.

Where are you getting the Maine's choice for that price? Call me crazy but they were one of the better pellets I tried last winter. A little messy but the hottest of them all. To campare I burned Energex, NEWP, Logic-e, Maine's Choice, Greene Gold Platinum, AWF, Green Team (NEWPs). I went through a mix totaling 3 ton. Mostly the Energex, which were good at first but towards the end I was getting a lot of clinkers.

like i said,i have seen Somersets(not crapp)Lignetics(not crapp)Presto-logs(not crapp) and Blazers(not crapp) around these parts lately.Judging from CapeCod sig he will be getting 5 ton.i agree that barefoot,okies and spruce point are a great pellet but at $325+ a ton i will gladly burn anyone of the pellets i listed from the box stores at $219 a ton.
$325 x 5...$1625
$219 x 5...$1095........thats $530 in his pocket.
BTW he has a P68 and that will burn just about anything

In our area they sell Green supremes,Presto, and the Chows...
spokesman at our store told us many many complaints with GS and PL so he tries to get the Chows exclusivly but doesn't always happen..
Could be from outside storage and constant moving around with HD's way of Stock rotation...[.Damp stock sometimes.]
I have a HarmanP61A that will burn most anything but still try to stay away from Bargain Basement pellets aside from SC's..
If u find a decent brand at HD for 219.00 and have already burned ton or 2, I figure stay with a winner. can't see buying a ton of another brand "IF" it's the same price.. but that's me..
funny thing pellets...
I have read complaints about what I concider the top 3, Turman, Hamer, and Barefoots...so,,,, Stove and human hands on or off play a big part I think.

While it's true, that the P68 will burn anything, that in no way shoud be taken
as they burn them all equal....
Quality is still quality, and you will get more heat from good pellets, than bad,
even though they both "burn"..

Asking someone which pellet is best is like asking them which car is the best or where is the best place to live. It's all subjective. One person may prefer economy over BTU and ash content. Another may be willing to spend more on a high end pellet and every argument in between. A pellet that's awesome in my stove may suck in yours and vice versa.

The best method for finding a good pellet is to try as many different types as you can then picking the one that best suits you.

Spruce Pointe, Hamers hot ones, Okanagans you cant go wrong.
