All done for the year here. Purchased 100 gallons of no 2 oil about 2 weeks ago. Not too bad first oil purchase of the year for the terrible winter we had. Time to start building the wood pile back up.

Ha, I skipped building a fire this morning. House was perhaps cool, but certainly not cold. Outside 51* and high today in the mid 60's so I figure we'll have the windows open anyway.

My wife came down and said "you haven't lit the fire yet?" I explained my position and she was so disappointed that I ended up building a fire anyway. Keep the wife happy eh? So I guess I'll be burning longer than I had expected yet...

Ha, same here. 64 in the house this morning. Knew the wife would be cold so I made one anyway. 44 low tonight, so I don't know about tomorrow morning.

I stopped around 4/1 and am running the mini split. It definitely put out plenty of heat when the temps are in the 30s.

I pulled on a fleece sweater about an hour ago and still felt cold. 51 outside and drizzling. House is 65. If this was July, I'd be basking in the coolness. But its April, and I don't like being cold. Lighting up.

I am holding off today. 78 and sunny outside and 116 at the roof decking.

As long as the temps in the house keep falling below 75 I will still have a small fire.

Unless we get some cold, rainy nights in the next couple weeks, I'm done.

Which is good since I'm basically out of dry, burnable wood.

Funny how 65 feels different.

All done. Last fire was a couple weeks ago and the draft was terrible then. I finally shoveled out the stove, dumped the ashes and washed out the ash bucket a few days ago. I cleaned the glass, closed the air controls and unplugged the blower as well.

second night without a fire .. feels kinda strange ....

First night here since oct...and I concur..just don't seem right!

it ain't over till it's over, I need heat, I need make fire, ugg :ZZZ

It's been a week now since I've burned and in another week all of the snow should be gone.

Maybe, but the cold weather isn't done yet. Snow predicted on Sunday night and cooler temps next week. Would imagine you will be getting some further north too.

2 years ago?? That's when we had the earliest spring I can remember! The ice was completely off all the lakes in March that year! I never plow the cottage through winter, rather, I walk in...but that year, i was driving to it the second week of March with no issues. Had a cookout around mid-month with everyone sitting outside on the deck.
That year, and one other i seem to recall, I managed to drive right up ito the camp all winter (plowed main road, long driveway in and I don't have a plow but i played it by ear - just kept driving over top, packing it down). A couple mid season thaws + lighter accumulation + fast early Spring melt + 4WD and i got away witth it. Last year I got caught though - i cleared it once or twice, but got lazy / stupid and got stuck good when the spring thaw hit. This year I didn't even try - snowblower ran every trip out. But even the early spring years we still have a fire in May / June - Superior is one big chiller especially when the sun goes down.

Yeah, I just looked at the forecast and I see in a few nights it's supposed to be down to 13! The lake is still completely covered with ice. I think I'll go out and bring some wood in! Lol

Yes, two years ago we had record warmth in March and the nice weather continued right through spring and it gave us a long summer. And then the next spring (last year) we paid dearly for it with the coldest March on record and it continued right through spring and we ended up getting 22" of snow on May 2nd. It made for a short summer.

Still having fires at night - it's been above freezing during the days lately, but keeps dropping back down below freezing at night. I figure I'll be done for the season next week or so. I'm at 3 cords on the button since we started burning in late Oct last year....

3 cords is pretty good for your location! I have a lot of cheap $1.19/gal propane yet and right now I use so little of it. If it's above 40 out it will only run for a few minutes every 4 hours or so. Me and the dogs keep the place warm ourselves. One adult puts out nearly 1000 BTUs an hour, lol

Wife got the fire going again 4 or 5 hours ago..lol.

It's not just you folks up north. We are looking for a high temperature tomorrow of 39, low of 24, chance of snow. I've still got some wood up on the porch to burn.
