Date on bags

Lowes may be moving inventory to where its needed now. But I think they are a bit late
The last two bags I bought at HD to try were born 2/14

Date on bag is the printed date of the bags, Not the filling date. Some bags have branded codes for filling date.

I did not know this.
So the bags are bought already printed with a date on them. The bags could be bought in March and filled in September with a March date
So why put a date on them?
No big deal I will burn anyway

I'm not buying it,as bulk bags come on a roll,and ordered way ahead of time.Besides some companies advertise they print bagging date on bags.

It's much more common for a printed date on the bags to be from the film supplier. They are already printing everything else on the bag so it's not a big deal for them to mark when they produced the film. For the pellet manufacturer to print on every bag would require a very expensive inline printer on the bagger, for almost no return on the investment. It would be much more cost effective to mark every ton rather than every bag.
Usually the date a bag is formed and filled is within a few months of when the film was made. But, when you buy film by the truckload, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the pallets in the back of the storage area are from several truckloads ago so when they do eventually get used the film date on them is much older.

They probably didn't rotate the stock of bags.

I have been burning approx. 5 ton a year for the past 5 years and buy it by the ton or 50 bags on a pallet. It is wrapped by plastic and has a paper tag about 6 inches square telling when it was bagged and where. It seems like Indeck from Menards is the only choice around here.
