New guy here been lurking for a few months and signed up yesterday so I figured I would get started with a bang!

Looks like Home Depot is trying to blow out all of their stoves with spring time being here. The original price is 899 plus tax and delivery at my store here in the Atlanta metro area.

If I change my store to # 702 Kingsport Tennesse zip code 24202 (I think) the same stove is 649.00 plus tax and delivery for a total of $800.36.

Seems like a smoking deal...Thoughts? Comments? Anyone seen them cheaper?

Several members here have already ordered the stoves with that HD deal.

I got mine that same way.;) Same deal.

Both my 30s were $649 and delivery was free. $687.94 Total Each.

I wish delivery was free but I ordered one last Weds to replace the old smoke dragon in my shop, with shipping and tax the total was $794 and change. The crazy thing is that I ordered it Weds night and on Fri it was at my local freight terminal. I tried to talk my wife into letting me order two, one for the shop and one to replace the Manchester but it was a no-go, "it's too ugly", "we're going to look at stoves this weekend" yada, yada, yada. It arrived Fri, I swapped the ugly pedestal for the legs and she changed her mind. The 30 I ordered is now sitting on the hearth and my shop still has the barrel stove.

I have one in my work shop and one in a house im rehabbing. Great stove for both locations. Barrel stoves OK for shop but need constant filling. I always take out the wood stove before i show the house to sell or rent though. Too many wood stove illiterate people out there to chance it.

For my Englander 13 from Home Depot:

I was successful in getting Home Depot to give me an additional 15% off the internet price AND the delivery was just $49 instead of $99. I called them, mentioned that I have 10% off coupons from Lowes (Lowes sells the Timber Ridge version of the Englander stove ) and 20% off coupons from Harbor Freight.

So right there they gave me 15% off.

Next, I mentioned that Lowes offers FREE delivery to the store, and only charges $49 for delivery to the house- not just to a local freight terminal! So they reduced the delivery charge to my home by $50.

I live in Chicago and the closest Home Depot with an Englander was 130 miles from me.

I travel around the world a lot- Vietnam, India, middle east, Africa.....EVERYTHING is a negotiation. If you just pay the first price they ask, you are labeled as a pushover.

Yeah, mine would have been delivered to the house also but it wouldn't have gone out for delivery until Mon. I was driving right past the freight terminal which was about 8 miles from my house so figured I might as well pick it up. I usually haggle on price but at the price this thing was at I figured it was already a good enough deal.

Yip, one reason I'm working on getting it out of there. I might order a second Englander today and try the RickBlaine, Lowes/Harbor Freight coupon method...

@Pyro:

Respect to you! You ordered Wednesday night and it is already INSTALLED!? Took me six MONTHS of indecisiveness until my stove was purchased and installed....lol

This was the 3rd worst winter in Chicago history, and I would gladly have paid $250 more in exchange for getting my head out of my arse last fall and buying the stove back then.

When you call Home Depot, it will help if you mention the Original Poster's zip code trick, THEN mention how close a Menards/Lowes/Ace Hardware (Ace also sells the Englander) is to you. Obviously, Harbor Freight does not sell the Englander, but I began with a polite yet firm greeting, and the question, "Do you honor coupons from competitors?" Home Depot said "yes", but would not give me 25% off (Harbor Freight coupon)...only 15%. Fair enough.

My local Ace manager said he would match Home Depot's price AND give me free delivery to the store (in Chicago, NO ONE orders a wood stove so he wanted to see it), but I would have to get it home. This is my first wood stove and I do not own a pick-up truck, so I thought delivery to my front door sounds like a good idea.

If all else fails, call back in an hour and try a different sales person.

We all freak out about wood stoves here....something about the Great Chicago fire of 1871.....

Seattle burned down in 1889. Like Chicago the fire wasn't caused by wood stoves and there are plenty stoves sold here.

Excellent points. There is no official cause for what caused the Chicago fire of 1871. Not many wood stoves are sold here today, though.

Every building in the concrete land of Chicago gets a free natural gas hook-up. It is very rare to see a wood burning stove.

Financially, it may NOT make sense to heat with wood vs. natural gas here. Most places charge $350 - $500 for a cord of wood to be delivered. I lucked out in that the city uses a lot just 3 blocks from me to store downed trees. 5-10 trees per week during the winter, 10-20 during the summer, and perhaps 20-50 immediately after a summer storm. If you ask, they will drop off a free tree log onto your driveway- the cutting, splitting, and stacking are your responsibility.

I was able to to get them to do the 15% off but they told me to go pound sand on the shipping.

Total cost is 702.39 with tax and delivery. I was happy at 800.00 I am ESTATIC with 702.00...Now how to explain the home depot bill to the wife.....

.Now how to explain the home depot bill to the wife.....

The guy method would be to add up your heating bill from last winter and show her how much you save by using the stove.

The gal method would be to tell her how much you are looking forward to many evenings cuddling with her in front of a warm, cozy fire watching {insert her favorite movie/TV show here}. ;lol

As a northerner, I hope that makes up for General Sherman burning your town down on purpose. Congrats on your Englander 30 purchase!

I like Grisu's two method way of explaining the bill. Which will you choose?

Please report back which method allowed you to live.

I ordered my 30NC from HD, had to pay shipping plus the TN tax.oh well.

mine was delivered wensday... now just have to get it down the stair, and figure out how to shorten the double wall pipe without taking the whole class a chimney down.

they have one of these damaged at the HD near me....what makes them such a good stove? Actually considered grabbing it, it was very inexpensive had a yellow clearance tag on it

Well since we heated with wood last year and our gas bill never got above $40.00 a month I am going to have to go with option two please sir. I have neglected to tell her thus far... I guess she will find out when the truck drop it on the drive way.

Wish me luck.... :p

This does heal the wounds ever so slightly! I do how ever think there would be a different outcome should the same feat be attempted by the northern aggressors again!

Thanks for the tip and savings!

So how does this work for an online purchase to get a discount? Do they give you a promo code to enter? Kinda curious as I'm gonna be doing the same thing shortly more than likely and definately wanna get the best deal I can :)

Mine came in on Friday. Had my whole family over for Easter and we got her put in the stove room with some help from the 2-wheel dolly. ;)

Congratulations. Did you already fire it up outdoors?

No, i decided to start a few quick fires in early Fall, so I can open the windows to let the smell out.
Takes awhile that way. You got to steadily increase the stove temp a small amount over a period of time,. A whole house fan helps a lot, and be prepared for your smoke alarms to go off.

Lol, ok will do. I do have a whole house fan, so that will help indeed. I know the stove says it will accept 22" logs, but I measured the NC-30, and it is 18" from the firebrick in the back to the front lip next to the "doghouse", and 19" from both firebricks side to side. Do you recommend keeping the wood behind the "doghouse, or can I stack wood over the lip towards the front glass, and how high can I stack?
