Well I finally broke down and picked up this electric log splitter. Now 1/2 of me is calling myself a wimp while the other 1/2 is calling myself an idiot for not getting it sooner. In short..It has cut down my splitting time by about 2/3's. Picked it up Saturday morning and had it home by 9:30 am. After tinkering with it for about 1/2 hour.....By 1:30 pm I had split 3.5 face cords. Oak, black locust, cottonwood, pine, maple and some hickory. Now mind you there were about 20 large pieces it would not muscle through and it popped the circuit breaker...but for the money...it was worth it... Originally $329...on sale for $279 had a 25% off coupon which brought it down too $210 plus tax. GREAT DEAL!!!! ;Looking forward to Thurs, Fri and Sat. Clear with temps in the 60's Have about 12 face cords of various size rounds to work on. I figure by next week at this time, all my splitting will be done and I will be sitting on about 20 face cords ready to go. Then back to scrounging another 10 to get me to my safety stock of 30.

I felt the same way when I got my homelite, split 95% of what I fed it, got lucky on a hydraulic but was happy with the smaller one.

Yeah, these little electric splitters are way more than I had imagined. Got one this spring for the boiler room. After splitting by hand for seasoning some will need a resplit for the gasser. They have such a small foot print and are easy to elevate to a good working height. Shoulda done it sooner but always assumed they were less than what they are.
 
I really like my Pow'Rkraft 7-ton...no complaints.

Yup, our Homelite 5ton lives beside the stove, the wife loves it for making kindling and taking the big boys down so she doesnt burn her hands loading
 
My unit is one of the few things where I've gotten way more than I paid for. Strategy goes a long way when nibbling away at a knotty crotch. Don't forget the breather valve, and remember to close it you drag it around. The fluid will make its escape. Definitely use your imagination in modding for hands-free operation. I "attach" a crescent wrench to the splitting handle, and dirt build-up and the weight of the wrench make operating the handle a one-finger operation, and I can cycle quicker by not having the ram not return full travel every time.

Think you like that......I just got a 16 ton electric. I cannot agree more that it is just WOW
