Picked up a Dolmar today

I have been cutting a lot of bigger stuff and wanted a saw with a little more snot than the 372XPG. I found a used Dolmar 7900 that the previous owner said had less than two gallons through it and had the original chain that was at about 60% condition. I could not pull it over briskly enough to start it without the decomp button.

What makes you say that. My dealer sent me an E-mail yesterday regarding a ported Jred 2171 he is working on a really nice Husky 359 he got in. Last week he ported a Jred 2159 and it ran awesome.

Possibly considering a used Silvey 510.

You misunderstood, the chain has 60% of it's life left in it. Take a look at the pic of the bar/chain. The guy didn't know which gauge of chain was on it since he had never bought a chain for it.

I'll think about it, it makes the saw so much bulkier.

I had a Makita 6401 just before the cat mufflers came out. It had incredible torque but was just too heavy and bulky for a 64cc class. This is quite light for a 79cc class as they share the same chassis.

I just did a little PM on the new saw. The yellow stuff on the bar came off and it appeared to be some kind of sap, nothing WD40 wouldn't take off. The bar also had two sticky price tags still on it where I could read the original price of the bar.

The inside of the power head had virtually not sawdust and the rim sprocket had virtually no wear.

I sharpened the chain although it was sharp the angle was too steep and I brought that back to 25 degrees and the angle on the rakers was flat rather than sloped. I've got tons of new chain but just can't throw out a good one. The chain on it is Oregon, probably LGX.

All that has to happen is rock a chain just one time and you can lose upto 30% just trying to get it sharp again.

That would be great if you could get a silvey grinder. Are you thinking of doing square grind.

Well I hope there is nothing wrong with LGX, I just bought two 100' rolls for $400.


Nah square grind is one thing I don't need to venture into, (right now anyway )

Yah it's such a great deal it cost me $400 bucks. See I am saving money.

Since I run the cutters down to the witness mark it will last quite a while. I am finally going through old loops and just tossing them.

I bought one roll for myself and then a buddy wanted some and rather than give him half of mine, we bought another roll. At that price it may not be duplicated again. LGX only too. Too bad I could use some JPX, that is da bomb on bars over 24".

Ah it's just color. The 6421 is a great saw, just maybe think about a non cat muffler.

Update,
Before doing any serious cutting I checked the high speed unloaded RPM on the new/used saw. What I mistook for 4 stroking was actually the saw bumping the rev limiter. This was instantly diagnosed when I checked the saw with a tach because you get readings all over the place. Further the saw high speed was already against the limiter tab. Rather than clip the tab made a trip to my trusty Husqvarna dealer who also sells Dolmar, (although not many). He pulled the limiter tab and moved it so that the high speed would have travel and then retuned the saw. First thing he said when he saw it was, "that's a new saw".
FWIW the saw was set a little rich at 13,100 rather than 13,500 which is recommended max.
