I tree guy near me is offering to drop 18 yards of wood in my driveway, just trying to get an idea of how much that is cord wise.

Is that in rounds, log length, splits, other?

Well, usually when people talk about volume in "yards", they're talking cubic yards.

1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet.

1 cord = 128 cubic feet.

18 cubic yards would be 486 cubic feet, divided by 128 gives you 3.79 cords.Probably less though once it's CSS.

People who talk in yards are usually dump truck people. Gravel, mulch and topsoil.
Can you post what type of truck he delivers it with?

That's what I was thinking. 18 yards would be a 10+ wheel dump truck worth. They wouldn't load something like by hand. Expect some big rounds.

I just had a friend drop 4 dump truck loads of pine and poplar in 10-14 ft lengths in my driveway. He's got a 20-yard dump truck. On the ground it only looks like between 9-10 cords. So I'd say you'll get about 2-3 cords depending on the size of the logs and pieces.

Four 20 yard dump beds full is a buncha wood.

I guess it depends on how big the "yard" is - I mow about 2.5 acres so if it filled 18 of my yards I would be set for life!

Never heard of wood delivered in yards, but I guess there's a way to calculate. Sounds like a lot though when talking yards.:).

Roughly speaking a cord is 5 yards. So 17 yards is a bit over 3.5 cords, stacked neatly. If it is uneven lengths that are randomly loaded into the truck bed (and not mounded over) it will probably yield no better than 2.5 cords.
