These are splits from a 50" post oak cut down 3 years ago.
This is what I got out of one 1/2 round. There was about 3 inches of punk on the outer out
edge I split off. What's left of the trunk is 10-12 ft. How much wood is there you reckon? image.jpg

That's some nice looking oak. Dry as a bone I'll bet.

Yep. Same with a hickory I just worked 36" tree, laying the woods 3 years. 45%
 
I have a Post Oak in that diameter on my property. Its a border tree on the fenceline between my property and my northern neighbor.
Theres 2 of them right next to each other. Ones Post Oak and the other Bur Oak.
And Im not in the natural range for either one of those trees.
 
Nice grab! :cool: That Oak heartwood will hold up for many, many years after the sapwood is long gone.

I've got a couple to take down on the edge of my SIL's yard; I'll post some pics. May not be for a while, though; Got some stuff to get first, that is already down. Rebduck, we need better pics; We want to feel like we're right there, looking at the wood. :p ==c

I do believe it though. Great when it is finally seasoned

Sorry hope these will work. My iPhone 4S broke so I'm using my old 3GS with the sucky camera

Those look good, a lot clearer. Maybe the cam moved on the first set. I can see Oak now. :cool:

Don't have any pics. When I was in high school I wanted to grow up to be a commercial photographer. Life took other directions.

My darkroom was in my closet.
